Hollie Doyle's on fire and I've been told one of the world's best races could be hers for the taking | The Sun

BRILLIANT rider Hollie Doyle continues to make Group 1 history on super Nashwa.

And she may well have the chance to do so again in York’s greatest prize.

Nashwa could jump up in trip again for the Juddmonte International, and success for Doyle in the race would allow her to become the first female rider to bang in the prestigious prize.

The jockey etched her name into the record books for the same reason on Nashwa when the pair landed the Group 1 Falmouth at the July meeting as well as the French Oaks as a three-year-old.

Doyle, who rides at Newmarket today and is going strong behind Will Buick in the jockeys’ championship, banged her second Group 1 of the season in the Falmouth.

She also struck on Bradsell in the King’s Stand Stakes at Royal Ascot and Saint Lawrence in the Wokingham at the same fixture.

Nashwa, who once ran in the Oaks at Epsom over a mile and a half, was dropping back to a mile in the Falmouth for only the second time in her career and the first since landing a novice event at Nottingham in April of last year.

The daughter of Frankel is now set to tackle the Group 1 Qatar Nassau at Goodwood, although some wish that she takes on the best of the best in the Sussex.

HEADCASE

Newmarket runner's bizarre headgear combo – is the shrewd trainer onto something?

She was unlucky at Royal Ascot and will have surely have the class edge on this field.

The red-hot pace will help her.

Yet it’s not that the Nassau will be easy, with French ace Blue Rose Cen set to go for Christopher Head.

Nashwa’s owner Imad al Sagar told me: “Nashwa runs in the Nassau.

“It’s the right race for her at this stage of the season and John Gosden agreed with me.

“After that there are many options. The Juddmonte International is a big possibility.

“And then the QEII at Ascot later in the season. We’ll also think about the Irish Champion Stakes and the Matron.

“She won’t go to the Breeders’ Cup at Santa Anita as she’s a filly who needs a big galloping track.”

In what could prove great news for racing fans, Nashwa might not be retired this season as was expected.

Imad added: “If you had asked me before the Falmouth then I would have said this was her last season.

“You see with a filly of this calibre you have to consider things very carefully.

“But now she’s proved she’s as good as or even better than ever she might well stay in training.

“Nashwa needed both her runs this season. She becomes fit with racing and they have allowed her to be in peak condition.”

Doyle’s career was given a huge boost when Imad chose her to ride his horses, and he could not speak more highly of his jockey.

He said: “I always believed in Hollie. I saw her talent and our association has been very good for both of us and I’m very proud for me and the sport.

“Hollie’s on fire this season. She’s a brilliant jockey and very loyal. She doesn’t make many mistakes.”

Hard to disagree with any of that.

It’s not impossible Nashwa will meet 1,000 Guineas heroine Mawj one day. But I doubt this season.

Handler Saeed bin Suroor is hoping to get the sidelined Classic winner back in action for the Sun Chariot at Newmarket in October.

Mawj has been coughing with dirty scopes since defeating subsequent Irish 1,000 heroine Tahiyra at HQ, and Bin Suroor said: “We go to the Sun Chariot and then she may go to the Breeders’ Cup’.”

I’m off to something called Tomorrowland in Belgium today for a big dance music festival — I love a good bop.

On the track there will some decent movers at Newbury where the Weatherbys Super Sprint is live on ITV and really should go to RELIEF RALLY (3.35)

She was one of my big hopes for Royasl Ascot, but was denied by a nose by Crimson Advocate in the Queen Mary.

She just got going too late that day and won’t want to do that today in a contest where they often blitz from start to finish.
