Horse racing tips: Can these three Doncaster St Leger Festival BANKERS justify their odds? | The Sun

THE Doncaster St Leger Festival kicks off on Wednesday.

And punters who love backing a shorty to do the business will be in clover throughout the week.

There look a few good things over the four days – on paper, at least.

Here, Sun Racing takes a look at some of the supposed bankers and assesses whether they really can justify their odds.

Trueshan

When? 3.10 Friday

Odds: 1-2

Verdict: With Stradivarius not running and Kyprios competing in Ireland, the stage is set for Alan King's stable star.

Withdrawn from the Lonsdale Cup at the last minute at York last month, Trueshan should still be perfectly match-fit for this.

Rain is forecast and that is a huge plus for him.

At the moment his nearest rival looks like being Coltrane, who was thrashed 14 lengths by Quickthorn at York.

Trueshan beat Quickthorn by three lengths in April.

Banker? Yes. Stick in your accas.

New London

When? 3.30 Saturday

Odds: 5-6

Verdict: This is really tough to call.

You cannot argue with New London's form, seeing off the mightily impressive and easy Group 2 Voltigeur Stakes winner Deauville Legend when landing the Group 3 Gordon Stakes at Glorious Goodwood.

Lightly raced, he saw off Epsom Cazoo Handicap winner Swilcan Bridge with ease before that.

Going from soft to good to firm seem to make no difference to this Godolphin runner, who won going away over 1m4f at Goodwood.

You'd think the 1m6½f of the St Leger would be right up his street.

Banker? No. But the deserved favourite on merit.

Adayar

When? 4.20 Thursday

Odds: 2-11

Verdict: Winner of the 2021 Epsom Derby and King George, things have been a disaster for Adayar ever since.

OK, the fourth to Torquator Tasso in the Arc wasn't bad but being pumped seven lengths by Sealiway when last seen last October was a shocker.

The Arc remains the aim for Charlie Appleby's runner and this could prove just the springboard with a victory against just two rivals.

Banker? No. Massively prohibitive odds suggest this should be a piece of cake, but enough question remarks remain over Adayar to leave this race a watching brief only.
