Templegate's Galway Plate runner-by-runner guide
EASY GAME 3
GAME lad. Grade 2 winner who made it four victories on the trot at Tramore last time. This trip and track suits and he has place claims despite a hefty weight.
GABYNAKO 3
GIFT of Gab. Was a cracking second in March’s Arkle before a solid effort at Punchestown. This longer trip should suit as will the likely decent ground. Solid claims.
HEWICK 5
HEW the cry. Easy winner of the Bet365 Gold Cup at Sandown in April and tuned up for this with a solid spin over hurdles. Up 6lb but should be in the mix again.
DALY TIGER 1
DALY wail. Jumped badly upped to 3m in the mud at Cork last time. Has decent form over shorter trips but has a lot of weight on recent form.
CAPE GENTLEMAN 4
CAPE a hope. Not seen since falling in a Fairyhouse Grade 1 novice contest in November when going well. Has much more to offer and seems on a fair weight so won’t be far away on comeback.
THE SHUNTER 4
SHUNT in hunt. Landed a big gamble in 2021 Festival Plate at Cheltenham before a good fourth in this race. He’s back off the same mark and is fit from a spin on the Flat so has place claims again.
ANNAMIX 2
ANNA panner. Good third in the Topham over the National fences off 4lb higher before not firing at Punchestown. Pulled up in this last year.
EL BARRA 3
BARRA has wheels. Impressive Punchestown winner when this sort of trip was ideal. Up 10lb for that but looks capable of better and Paul Townend’s choice.
NOTEBOOK 1
FLAT Note. Grade 1 performer around 2m at his peak in 2020 but has struggled for a while and was poor at Tramore earlier this month.
RONALD PUMP 3
PUMP no grump. Fell at the last in the Irish National but better over this trip and only 3lb higher than a good second at Naas in March. Softer ground would help.
A WAVE OF THE SEA 2
SEA sunk. Solid performer over shorter trips and fit from a hurdles run. Looks a little high in weights and stamina to prove.
BATTLEOVERDOYEN 2
BATTLE fatigue. Midfield in this last year off 7lb higher and won a couple of days later but has been out of sorts since. Bit to prove now.
CASTLEGRACE PADDY 1
PADDY whacked. Solid form over shorter and fit from a good win on the Flat earlier this month. Been laid out for this but isn’t certain to stay.
DARASSO 3
SO can go. Grade 2 winner over this sort of trip and fitter from a solid comeback at Tipperary. Has a fair weight and has an each-way shout.
EARLY DOORS 3
DOORS open. Won this two years ago off 9lb lower and has been hard to train since. He had a pop over hurdles to prepare for this and his liking for the track gives him place prospects.
EXELERATOR EXPRESS 3
EXPRESS train. Good handicap winner at Aintree in May before going close at Punchestown. Stays well and looks on a fair mark so can outrun his long odds.
HURRICANE GEORGIE 4
HURRI up for it. Followed two hurdles wins with an impressive chase success at Kilbeggan 19 days ago. Up 11lb for that but is a young improver who can run well for Gordon Elliott.
THE JAM MAN 2
IN a Jam. Plenty of miles on the clock and has been struggling on the Flat this season. Still 16lb above last chase win.
ASH TREE MEADOW 4
HOT Ash. Landed the hat-trick at Killarney in good style and this longer trip should suit. Has much more to come and every chance if handling this bigger field.
FIRE ATTACK 4
ON the Attack. Early days over fences and landed an impressive win at Punchestown in May. This trip suits and he looks well weighted so can go close.
GIN ON LIME 3
BRIGHT Lime. Famous for Rachel Blackmore staying on board when she ‘fell’ at Cheltenham and she ran her best race since when second at Limerick in May. There’s more to come and she looks well handicapped.
DISCORDANTLY 3
DISCO ball. Bounced back when second at Punchestown and a 1lb rise looks fair. Has won round here before and this trip is ideal. Solid each-way hope.
Templegate's Galway Plate tip
HEWICK can take the Galway Plate.
His last chase win saw him take the red-hot Bet365 Gold Cup at Sandown by an impressive eight lengths.
A 6lb rise in the weights for that seems more than fair and he’s fit from a good spin over hurdles at Ballinrobe in late May.
Cape Gentleman took a tumble last time but is a Grade 3 winner who can bounce back. Gordon Elliott has two good chances in rising stars Hurricane Georgie and Ash Tree Meadow.
