John Souttar's brother dies as Rangers star pays emotional tribute to 'hero and best mate' | The Sun

RANGERS defender John Souttar's brother, Aaron, has died at the age of 42 after a long battle with illness.

The Scotland star described Aaron as "my brother, my hero, my best mate" in an emotional post on Facebook.

Aaron suffered from motor neurone disease and the family have revealed that he sadly passed away last month, on Sunday July 17.

His sister, Ailsa Shand, said via a Facebook post: "On Sunday 17th July, our beautiful Aaron passed away, after a long illness, aged 42.

"A beloved partner of Paula, adored and proud dad of Hamish, deeply loved son of Jack and Caroline, step-son of Heather and Mark, loved brother of Ailsa, John, Harry and Mhiran.

"Flowers welcome or donations, if desired, may be made in aid of My Name’5 Doddie Foundation & MND Scotland.

"Please feel free to share this post, so we can reach as many of Aaron’s friends as possible."

Aaron's funeral took place on Thursday at Parkgrove Crematoriumin, Friokheim, after which family and friends attended Brechin Golf Club, where Aaron was previously club captain.

The family said they would welcome donations to Scotland rugby legend Doddie Weir's charity, the My Name’5 Doddie Foundation, in aid of motor neurone disease.

When John scored his first goal for Scotland against Denmark last year, he dedicated the goal to brother Aaron.
