Harry Kane’s Bayern Munich debut did not go to plan as his new side crashed to a 3-0 defeat to RB Leipzig in the German Super Cup.

The England captain only completed his £100m transfer to the Bundesliga giants from Tottenham on Saturday morning but was named on the bench by Thomas Tuchel just hours later.

Bayern were already 2-0 down by the time Kane entered the field, and they were ultimately put to the sword by a Dani Olmo hat-trick.

Spanish midfielder Olmo completed his treble with a penalty after Bayern defender Noussair Mazraoui was penalised for handball.

A number of Bayern players went to protest with referee Bastian Dankert about the decision, including Kane.

But as Mazraoui and Bayern captain Joshua Kimmich made their case to Dankert, Kane appeared to realise his German skills were not quite up to scratch.

After initially appearing keen to protest the innocence of his team-mate, the England captain quickly had second thoughts and remained quiet before covering his mouth.

With Kane having only been in Germany since last night as part of his whirlwind transfer, he can be forgiven for not quite acclimatising to his new surroundings yet.

Bayern manager Thomas Tuchel could hardly hide his delight at the capture of his new signing ahead of kick off, and Kane and his new team-mates will no doubt be looking to bounce back in their Bundesliga opener against Werder Bremen on Friday, August 18.

The England captain received a warm welcome from Bayern fans prior to kick-off, as he entered the Allianz Arena for the first time since sealing his £100m move.

During pre-match build-up Kane’s name was announced over the in-stadium tannoy and was met by a chorus of cheers from the Bayern fans.

The moment was captured on video and posted on Twitter shortly afterwards, with the England captain seen doing warm-up drills on the pitch.

Bayern’s official Twitter account also posted a clip of Kane walking onto the Allianz Arena pitch for the first time, as fans whistle and cheer his arrival.

On Saturday, the England striker released an emotional goodbye video to the club and fans, insisting he wanted them to hear the move to Bayern from himself first.

In the message, Kane urged: ‘I wanted to be the first to tell you Tottenham fans that I’ll be leaving the club today.

However, it was a debut to forget for the England captain who couldn’t prevent the defeat

‘Obviously a lot of emotions going through me right now; sad to be leaving the club I’ve spent nearly 20 years of my life at, from 11-year-old boy to a 30-year-old man now.

‘There’s been so many great moments and special memories, memories that I will cherish forever. I felt like it was the time to leave. I didn’t want to go into the season with a lot of unresolved future talk.

‘I think it’s important for the new manager and the players to concentrate on trying to get Tottenham back to around the top of the table and fighting for trophies so I wish Ange [Postecoglou] and all the boys all the very best of luck.

‘I’ll be watching from a fan point of view now and really hope the team can be successful.’
