Kepa fires dig at Lampard's Chelsea tactics and claims team has 'regained control' under Tuchel | The Sun

KEPA ARRIZABALAGA has fired a dig at Frank Lamaprd’s Chelsea tactics and claimed the team have “regained control” under Thomas Tuchel.

The goalkeeper, who has been enjoying a holiday back in his homeland of Spain with his beautiful girlfriend Andrea Martinez, has been linked with a loan move to Nice.

The world's most expensive stopper, 27, arrived at Stamford Bridge for a whopping £71.6million in 2018.

However, since Edouard Mendy arrived two years later, the former Athletic Bilbao man has been reduced to a bench-warming or cup-keeper role after firstly being dropped by ex-manager Lampard – who is now in charge of Everton.

The Chelsea legend was sacked in January 2021 and replaced by Tuchel, who instantly led them to Champions League joy.

They could only finish third in the Premier League last season and were beaten in both the League and FA Cup finals, but Kepa is much more impressed by the German tactician than he was with Lampard.

Speaking to Marca, he said: “Yes. We came from a not so elaborate game [with Lampard], we didn't have to take the ball from behind, a less planned game, more to the free expression of the player, back and forth and less control.

“With Tuchel we have returned to control. It is true that in the Premier we were not close to the top two, but in the other tournaments we have been very competitive.”

Kepa still has three years left on his seven-year contract in West London but has grown frustrated over his bit-part role.

And he admitted he could go elsewhere unless that changes.

He added: “Right now, I am a Chelsea player, but what I am clear about is that I want to play more because I come from a year or two where, when I have played, I have had a great performance.

“For that reason, because of that good performance I had, the feeling is that I want more. I want to play more.

“I am at Chelsea, and I want to succeed here. And if it wasn't possible, we would analyse other different things because my clear objective is to play.

“I am not desperate. In the end, I'm at a great club. I'll talk to the coach, and we'll decide, but with the clear message that I want to play more.”
