King Charles and Camilla are darts mad and enjoyed a game of 501 on pub visit

King Charles and Queen consort Camilla have been spotted enjoying an expected pastime in recent years having grown fond of the pub favourite game of darts.

Charles III, who was Prince Charles until the peaceful passing of his mother Elizabeth II at the age of 96 at Balmoral, might well partake in a few games as king.

During a royal pub visit back in 2014, the pair both threw arrows at a traditional bristle board, with Charles evening finding time to pull a pint behind the bar.

According to The Mirror, one punter said: "Camilla told us how much she and Charles like darts. She said they both have a good throw."

The couple met both staff and customers at The Bell in Purleigh, Essex in support of the The Pub is the Hub organisation which supports licensees.

Previously, back in 2007, Charles even stated that he was 'doing my best to keep the darts tradition going' while joining the 'save our darts campaign'.

His son Prince Harry has also been spotted at the World Darts Championship on multiple occasions, as have Zara Tindall and Mike Tindall.

The iconic late darts commentator Sid Waddell said at one of Harry's visits: "I never thought I’d see the day when he turned up at Ally Pally for the darts."

The new King has also been on hand to honour darts stars in the past, handing Trina Gulliver her MBE award for services to the sport of darts and charity work in 2013.

The passing of the beloved Queen was announced on Thursday September 8, with an emotional statement.

It read: "The Queen died peacefully at Balmoral this afternoon.

"The King and The Queen Consort will remain at Balmoral this evening and will return to London tomorrow."
