Man City's Champions League win lands punter's season-long bet and £25k returns | The Sun

MANCHESTER CITY'S win in Istanbul on Saturday wrapped up an historic treble and immortality status for the manager and playing squad.

And for one William Hill punter, it capped off a sensational, season-long bet – wrapping up a stunning £25,000 in returns too!

In a stuffy Champions League final, City struggled to get in any sort of rhythm with the Inter game plan working to perfection.

The City front three barely had a kick for the first hour and Kevin de Bruyne's first half injury and substitution did nothing to help their cause.

But ultra-consistent Rodri was the man to step forward with the winning strike to land the trophy they all wanted.

It was the final leg in a six-fold of season long bets for one punter, meaning a nervy night would most likely have been had watching that unfold – particularly as Inter came onto a game in the final 10 minutes.

The first leg landed in mid-April with Forest Green's prompt relegation from League One and back into the fourth tier.

Wrexham then wrapped up the National League with a game to spare at 6/5 odds, with Northampton (3/1) themselves clinching promotion from League Two around the same time.

Middlesbrough turned their season right around with Michael Carrick's appointment and their 5/6 odds for a top six finish never looked in doubt for the final couple of months of the season, with an automatic promotion bid firmly in the reckoning into the latter part of the campaign.

Southampton joining them in the second division looked ominous for some time too, with the Saints down with a few games to spare at 10/3 odds.

That just left City for the bettor's six-fold, with the 5/2 odds of winning the Champions League earlier in the season looking huge as they swatted Bayern Munich and Real Madrid aside ahead of that final win over the Italians.

Their £25 stake returned £25,000 over the course of a three quarters of a year – definitely worth the wait.

William Hill spokesperson, Lee Phelps, said: “There’s no doubt this is one of the best predictive football bets we’ve seen this season, and one that would still have been scarcely believable back in April when Forest Green were relegated to secure the first leg of the winning six-fold.

“Saturday’s Champions League final must have made for nail-biting viewing, but with the final whistle in Istanbul came a cool £25k reward for one lucky punter – an amazing result from just a £25 outlay at the beginning of the season.”
