Danny Ings emphatically returned to form for West Ham at the weekend, bagging two quickfire goals in his side’s 4-0 triumph against Nottingham Forest.

No doubt there have always been question marks about his fitness, but when he’s on song, the striker is a quite the handful for defences.

It remains to be seen whether David Moyes opts to start him or wrap him up in cotton wool ahead of West Ham’s fight against the drop, but Man United will need a plan to deal with him just in case.

Lisandro Martinez and Raphael Varane have been shining lights for Erik ten Hag at the back this season and could play a major role today. Unless of course, the Dutchman sees it as a perfect opportunity to reinstate club captain Harry Maguire…

West Ham’s trip to Old Trafford may be this evening’s headline tie, but there are three more matches to keep an eye on throughout the night.

In what could well be a banana skin fixture for Spurs, Tottenham travel to Bramall Lane to face Championship high-flyers Sheffield United, while Southampton host Grimsby and Burnley host Fleetwood.

Yesterday, Blackburn Rovers launched a shock upset against Leicester to knock the 2021 winners out the competition, triumphing 2-1 at the King Power.

Meanwhile, Manchester City cruised past Bristol City with a comfortable 3-0 away win, Fulham edged out fellow Premier League side Leeds 2-0 and Brighton narrowly beat Stoke 1-0.

TUESDAY:

Leicester 1-2 Blackburn

Stoke 0-1 Brighton

Fulham 2-0 Leeds

Bristol City 0-3 Man City

WEDNESDAY:

Man United vs West Ham

Sheffield United vs Tottenham

Burnley vs Fleetwood

Southampton vs Grimsby
