"It feels like we are in our own bubble with the rest of the world saying negative things.”

    De Gea's cryptic message

David De Gea looks to be spending time playing video games, posting a clip of himself playing popular title Rainbow Six Siege.

The veteran’s character was seen aiming at a hallway stock-still waiting for a target to appear.

But after eventually taking his eye off the ball to move to a new room, De Gea’s character was immediately shot by an opponent.

The goalkeeper captioned the video: “Perfect timing.”

And he accompanied it with two emojis giving the middle finger.

    Fernandes on Utd crisis

Bruno Fernandes has laughed off the talk of a "crisis' at Man Utd.

“This is Manchester United. Even if you win 10 games in a row and lose one, it's a crisis straight away,” he told ViaPlay.

“We are not having the results and points we want to have but it's about getting the focus back after the international break."

The Scot came off the bench to score twice in injury time to sink Brentford's hearts.

"McTominay was fabulous," the Dutch tactician said after the game.

“When you come in with the end of the game near and you bring that mindset, that energy and that confidence, he fought for every meter, for every ball, and he was rewarded”.

    Player ratings part 4

CHRISTIAN ERIKSEN (for Casemiro 45): On to try and add a bit more creation but it didn’t happen. 5.

ANTONY (for Mount 62): Brought on to give an injection of pace and trickery but apart from a customary cut in and shot wide there was little. 5.

ALEJANDRO GARNACHO (for Rashford 62): Usually makes an impression late in games. Not on this occasion. 5.

ANTHONY MARTIAL (for Lindelof 71): Asked to change the game. Not surprisingly he didn’t. His slight touch in an offside position initially denied McTominay before the equaliser came. 5.

SCOTT MCTOMINAY (for Amrabat 87): Unbelievable! Came on late and gave the team an extra push. Grabbed two goals in injury time for. another incredible Old Trafford late show. 9.

    Player ratings part 3

    BRUNO FERNANDES – 6

Never as effective on the right as he is in the middle but always wanting and using the ball. Had a good effort well saved in the second-half.

    MASON MOUNT – 5

What does he do, where does he play, why did they buy him? The questions were swirling round again after another underwhelming performance.

    MARCUS RASHFORD – 4

His place was in doubt for this game. That player who scored 30 goals last season needs to be found again. Subbed for the third game running.

    RASMUS HOJLUND – 6

The Dane’s double against Galatasaray showed that if you give him the chances he will take them. Unfortunately, hardly any are being created for him.

    Players ratings continued

    JONNY EVANS – 7

The Northern Irishman showed no rustiness in his first start back at United when he was man of the match at Burnley and looked similarly assured here. It was his first start at Old Trafford since February 2015.

    VICTOR LINDELOF – 5

Asked to play at right back as the back four was reshuffled. Gave the final ball away for Brentford’s goal and finally subbed as United went chasing an equaliser.

    CASEMIRO – 2

There is one thing for having belief in your own ability, but in Casemiro’s case this season it has led to him being far too sloppy. Gave the ball away twice for Brentford’s goal. Hooked at half-time.

    SOFYAN AMRABAT- 4

Shifted out of the left-back position which he clearly cannot play in. Mind you he was hardly a world beater in midfielder on this occasion.

United squeezed a result out of the Brentford game.

Here's how SunSport football writer Neil Custis rated the players.

    ANDRE ONANA -2

How on earth did Inter Milan get to the Champions League final with this bloke in nets? Another error as he let a shot slide through his hand

    DIOGO DALOT – 6

Did well to stop Brentford from getting a second when he sensed danger and retreated to the goalline to whack Christian Norgaard’s header clear.

    HARRY MAGUIRE – 6

Credit to the former captain for being fit, ready and available after the way he has been treated. Solid enough performance. 6.

    McTominay: You never give up

With his stoppage time heroics, Scott McTominay became the first Premier League player to score two goals in the 90th minute or later since Steven Bergwijn for Tottenham against Leicester in January 2022.

After the game, the matchwinner explained that at Manchester United the players know never to give up.

That's probably one of my favourite moments on a football pitch! Two goals at the death was incredible, but I'm just happy to contribute and show what I can do. We've got fight in this group and stick at it to the end, it could have been any one of the players who scored the goals. You never give up. At this football club, it's the mantra. I've been here since I was five-years-old and know that better than anyone.

    Great Scott! What a substitution!

An 87th-minute substitute, Scott McTominay only managed five touches of the football.

It just so happens that his two inside the Brentford penalty area resulted in the goals that turned this match around in the most dramatic of circumstances.

    What an introduction.

    Match stats from Old Trafford

From their 21 shots at goal, it was attempts 19 and 21 that finally broke through Brentford's resolve.

Full time – Man Utd 2-1 Brentford

What a comeback by Manchester United.

Heading into stoppage time, this was the latest home defeat amid a continued run of underwhelming performances.

But enter Scott McTominay and the spirit of the mourning Sir Alex Ferguson.

The substitute only registered five touches during his time on the pitch, but two were all that was needed to turn this game around in dramatic fashion.

"Could this be Erik ten Hag's Mark Robins moment?!" bellowed commentator Seb Hutchinson.

United fans will certainly hope so.

    Man Utd 2-1 Brentford

90+7. UNBELIEVABLE SCENES AT OLD TRAFFORD!!

In the final seconds, substitute Scott McTominay heads in his second to send the Manchester United faithful into raptures.

A long ball to the edge of the Brentford penalty area is headed back into the danger zone by Harry Maguire, and for the first time this afternoon Ethan Pinnock loses his man.

Reacting first is Scott McTominay – buoyed by his late equaliser – and he duly plants his header beyond Thomas Strakosha and in off the post to spark the kind of celebrations that they have not seen here for years.

    What. An. Ending.

    SCOTT McTOMINAY AT THE DOUBLE!!

  • By Sam Dymond

    Man Utd 1-1 Brentford

90+5. Manchester United believe they can this now.

Hojlund and Pinnock wrestle for possession in the box, and the ball eventually falls kindly into the path of Martial.

The forward gets his head down and shoots…

    …straight at Strakosha.

    Man Utd 1-1 Brentford

    90+3. IT'S IN!!

And the much-maligned Scott McTominay is the hero!

Off the bench, the substitute has equalised deep into stoppage time, cooly applying the finish touch amid panic in the Brentford penalty area.

Alejandro Garnacho does brilliantly to twist away from his marker and cross from the byline for Diogo Dalot, whose shot is palmed out by Thomas Strakosha.

But nobody is able deal with the loose ball in the ensuing madness until McTominay makes his mark by calmly planting a side-footer into the bottom corner.

There's no time for celebrations either. A quick fist-pump from the Scot, and it's back to the centre-circle with the ball for the final minutes of stoppage time.

    Man Utd 0-1 Brentford

    89. The ball is in the net!

But the linesman's flag is up!

It eventually goes in off a Brentford defender, but Anthony Martial is declared offside in the build-up.

VAR do check the play, but quickly agree with the onfield decision. Let's just hope the video officials heard it correctly.

    Man Utd 0-1 Brentford

    Man Utd 0-1 Brentford

    86. An Antony shot is blocked, and that will be the cue for United to make their fifth and final change.

    Off goes Sofyan Amrabat.
