MANCHESTER UNITED have reportedly had a players-plus-cash bid for Rasmus Hojlund rejected by Atalanta.
The Red Devils have made the striker one of their transfer priorities this summer.
And they are believed to be in the process of reaching a transfer agreement for the signings of Hojlund and Andre Onana.
But their chances of signing Hojlund have taken a blow after United offered Atalanta a player exchange deal including money on top.
Atalanta value the 20-year-old at £86million and are insisting on a cash-only deal, report The Athletic.
United view that as excessive and had hoped the Serie A club would be willing to reduce their asking price if a player was exchanged.
Midfielders Fred and Donny van de Beek are available for transfer with the pair missing United’s pre-season friendly win over Leeds in Oslo on Wednesday.
United's summer budget of around £100m means they may be forced to look elsewhere if Atalanta refuse to budge, as Onana could cost around £50m.
The Red Devils have been dealt another blow in their Hojlund pursuit with Paris Saint-Germain reportedly interested in the youngster.
But Hojlund is said to be keen on a move to Old Trafford and agreeing personal terms should not prove difficult.
That means a deal could be wrapped up quickly if United and Atalanta reach an agreement on his transfer fee.
Erik ten Hag also has other attacking targets if the club miss out on Hojlund, including Randal Kolo Muani and Victor Osimhen.
