Man Utd star James Garner wanted by Everton as Frank Lampard leads race for £13m midfielder who can leave this week | The Sun

EVERTON have emerged as frontrunners in the race to sign Manchester United star James Garner ahead of the transfer deadline.

Garner, 21, is yet to kick a ball in the Premier League for United, and has been shipped out on loan three times.

The arrivals of Casemiro and Christian Eriksen at Old Trafford have pushed Garner further down the pecking line.

And United are now hoping to cash in on the midfielder before the transfer deadline.

His impressive loan stint with Nottingham Forest last season has caught the attention of a number of Prem clubs.

Although Forest decided against adding Garner to their list of eighteen signings this summer.

SunSport exclusively revealed that Tottenham, Leeds and Southampton were squabbling for his services.

But none of them wanted to meet United's £14m asking price.

However, Everton don't have the same reservations over the youngster's fee, and are on the verge of coming to an agreement with the Red Devils, according to Fabrizio Romano.

It's also claimed three other clubs have placed bids for Garner, but the Toffees seem most likely to get a deal over the line.

A move to Goodison Park would suit Garner who's seeking regular first-team football after consistent game time on his loan travels over the years.

Garner's set to join Chelsea target Anthony Gordon at Goodison Park if he makes the move to Merseyside.

Gordon has been linked with a switch to Chelsea but Everton boss Frank Lampard has declared his prized asset won't be leaving this summer.
