    Erik in brutal title admission

Erik ten Hag admits Man City are the only Premier League side who can talk about title ambitions this pre-season.

Ten Hag said: "I think in pre-season we shouldn't talk about that – I think no one in the Premier League can do that, maybe City, they can do that because for the last six years they won the title five times.

“So they can talk about that, but any other club must first compete for the first four positions, and make sure you are getting in the first four and then after the first two.

"And then maybe you can see about getting yourself into such a position, but don't talk about that achievement.”

  • Erik assures Harry he can regain place

Erik ten Hag says he axed Harry Maguire as captain to help the team.

Maguire was left hurt and angry as he was replaced by Bruno Fernandes as Manchester United team skipper.

But explaining his decision Ten Hag said: “It’s nothing against Harry, it was in advantage of the team. Then you make the decision.”

Now despite starting him in just eight Premier League games last season Ten Hag has challenged the 30-year-old £80million England international to stay at Old Trafford and fight for his place.

The Dutchman added: "I will not say that Harry isn’t part of this group. He has to fight for his position. He is a very good centre-back, and I believe in the potential of Harry Maguire. He has to prove himself and fight his way into the team. It’s up to him, and I think he can do it.

"It’s tough when you’re competing with Rapha Varane and Victor Lindelof. It’s huge competition. That has nothing to do with the belief.

"I have often chosen a player ahead of Harry, that’s true. But that says nothing about me not believing in him. He has to show he is better for the team than Rapha or Victor. I think that’s a normal situation in top football.”

  • Jadon urged to show consistency

Erik ten Hag reckons Jadon Sancho is ready to show Manchester United fans his true worth as he’s now in a great place mentally and physically

England winger Sancho, 23, struggled last season, especially early on.

But boss Ten Hag said: “In this moment he is in a very good vibe. He decides how he is, how his mood and vibe is. I hope and expect.

“He has a lot of energy, we have all seen that from the moment he came back. “He wants to enjoy football and be successful.

“He has the skills so also for him it’s the same. He has to show consistently that he can make a huge contribution.

“When you are a front player that end product is the key. So make sure you are making the key actions, the final pass and get your goals in, because that’s why he is here.”

Red Devils 'eye Todibo and Branthwaite'

Manchester United are reportedly still interested in buying a new centre-back this summer.

Manager Erik ten Hag has already added Mason Mount and Andre Onana to his squad.

And he FINALLY looks to have solved his striker crisis with Rasmus Hojlund closing in on completing a move.

However, the Dutchman is not yet done, despite Man United's summer spend already reaching a whopping £179million.

The Red Devils have been courting two centre-back options with Nice's Jean-Clair Todibo and Everton youngster Jarrad Branthwaite listed as options, according to the Daily Mail.

The report claims that Todibo's improved form in Ligue 1 has caught the eye of United.

It also suggests that Branthwaite impressed club scouts while out on loan at Eredivisie outfit PSV Eindhoven last season.

United have already lost young defender Di'Shon Bernard on a free transfer to Sheffield Wednesday following his release.

The club could also lose former captain Harry Maguire with West Ham already having one bid rejected.

Should the England international leave Old Trafford, United's centre-back options would start to look scarce.

Shaw admits Utd stars 'desperate' for a new striker

Luke Shaw says Manchester United players are "desperate" for an out-and-out striker to join.

Atalanta frontman Rasmus Hojlund is close to fitting that bill with an imminent £72million arrival.

And left-back Shaw told Sky Sports: "We've already signed some very good players and hopefully there's more additions to come to strengthen the squad

"I don't really want to comment too much on that [Hojlund deal]. I think obviously he's not our player yet, so I won't say too much.

"Of course, we've got [Anthony] Martial, [Marcus] Rashford at the moment and [Jadon] Sancho, who can play there.

"But an out-and-out striker is what we need and we're desperate for one. I'm very sure that the club know that, the manager knows that and us players would love one to come too."

    Di'Shon joins Owls

Former Manchester United wonderkid Di’Shon Bernard has dropped down to join Championship side Sheffield Wednesday.

The ex-Red Devil was highly rated during his time coming through the youth ranks but failed to make the step up to the senior team.

Bernard, 22, has now joined the Owls on a permanent deal following his release at Old Trafford.

He will link up with another former Man United youngster Ashley Fletcher.

The striker made the move to Hillsborough on loan from league rivals Watford earlier in the transfer window.

Bernard made one first-team appearance after coming through the Red Devils' academy.

His one senior outing came under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, when the ex-Manchester United boss threw him into a Europa League clash with Astana in 2019.

Bernard subsequently had to bide his time, spending the following two seasons on loan at Salford and Hull.

He was restored to first team training during the first half of the 2022-23 season under current boss Erik ten Hag.

But the Dutchman never opted to select Bernard for a matchday squad.

Ten Hag rules out title talk

Erik ten Hag says only Manchester City can talk about title ambitions while the rest aim for the top four.

The Manchester United boss guided his side to third last season, 14 points behind Pep Guardiola’s men who claimed their fifth title in six years.

And asked if the Red Devils could now realistically talk of a title challenge, he was as forthright as ever.

Ten Hag said: “I think in pre-season we shouldn’t talk about that – I think no one in the Premier League can do that, maybe City, they can do that because for the last six years they won the title five times.

“So they can talk about that, but any other club must first compete for the first four positions, and make sure you are getting in the first four and then after the first two and then maybe you can see about getting yourself into such a position, but don’t talk about that achievement.”

  • Too much expected of Jadon – Erik

Erik ten Hag believes too much was expected of Jadon Sancho when he arrived at Manchester United from Borussia Dortmund two summers ago.

The Old Trafford chief said: “It’s the development. The Bundesliga is perfect preparation for the Premier League. It’s tougher.

“I saw many games at Dortmund and Jadon is not such a different player in Dortmund as he is here.

“But also for him, he has to get more consistency in his performance but he has to do it at a higher level.”

Spurs tell Bayern to up Kane offer or forget it

Tottenham have told Bayern Munich they must significantly up their offer for Harry Kane after frustrating talks in London.

Bayern chiefs Jan-Christian Dreesen and Marco Neppe flew into London yesterday for further discussions with Spurs chairman Daniel Levy over their move for the England captain.

The Bundesliga giants have had £60million and £70million offers rejected so far with talks expecting to continue this week.

There have been suggestions that the German champions could go up to around £86million, which is still well below Tottenham's £100million valuation of their all time top scorer.

Kane is out of contract at Tottenham next summer and is not entertaining signing a new deal – meaning Spurs risk losing him for nothing next summer if they do not sell now.

The England captain is interested in a move to Bayern Munich this summer.

Bayern bosses, who returned to Munich last night, are thought to still be confident of sealing a deal before the close of the window.

Red Devils vs Al-Ahli for Amrabat

Manchester United might have to sell first before they can confidently bid for Sofyan Amrabat, it's claimed.

The Fiorentina anchorman, 26, is also wanted by Saudi Arabia's Al-Ahli.

It's thought Amrabat could move for £26million.

But United are expected to splash out massively to land Atalanta striker Rasmus Hojlund.

United 'could hijack Liverpool's Romeo bid'

Manchester United could hijack Liverpool's move for £50million-rated midfielder Romeo Lavia.

Chelsea are also keen on signing the Southampton starlet, who impressed for the Saints last season.

Liverpool have emerged as the favourites to sign the 19-year-old in recent weeks, but could now face competition for his signature.

After having a £35million bid rejected, the Reds are expected to submit a second offer this week.

However, the Daily Mail report that United and Chelsea are both interested in the teenager, along with an unnamed foreign club.

Chelsea have been in contact, with the Blues still yet to reach an agreement for the signing of Brighton' Moises Caicedo.

Liverpool remain the favourites to sign Lavia, though, after reportedly agreeing personal terms with the Belgian.
