EXCLUSIVE: Former England captain David Beckham has given his support to under-fire defender Harry Maguire.

Becks, 48, texted Maguire urging him to prove his doubters wrong after the Man Utd star’s own goal in the 3-1 friendly win against Scotland on Tuesday.

United a 'strange and disjointed club'

TROY DEENEY EXCLUSIVE: A word that keeps getting thrown about at Manchester United under Erik ten Hag is ‘culture’.

He is clearly still trying to change it, despite being well into his second season in charge.

But fundamentally, this is a strange club at the moment. A disjointed club with a squad that doesn’t excite me, and why would it?

The Antony situation doesn’t help. The Mason Greenwood situation doesn’t help. The Jadon Sancho situation doesn’t help. The Harry Maguire situation doesn’t help.

But you need to start getting a tune out of some of these big-name players otherwise you are in a position with high-profile stars on a lot of money just sitting around.

What we said about Cristiano Ronaldo before he left, we will start saying about Sancho, Antony, Maguire, even Mason Mount potentially if he drops to the bench.

With Sancho, I appreciate his situation and why he came out and said what he did on social media in response to Ten Hag.

As a manager now, you have to be extremely careful with what you say about players. As for Maguire, I agree with Gareth Southgate. The abuse he is getting is bang out of order. It is like if anything wrong happens, it is his fault, whether that is at United or England.

    Red Devils must beware Ferguson

Mikael Silvestre believes how Manchester United deal with Brighton attackers Evan Ferguson and Kaoru Mitoma could be the key tomorrow.

The ex-Red Devils defender reckons in-form striker Ferguson – already being linked with a big-money January transfer Prem giants – won't be a "specific threat" if the 18-year-old is marked closely.

But he thinks keeping winger Mitoma at bay needs more than one man.

Silvestre told bettingexpert.com: ‘I’ve watched his (Ferguson's) goals, and I think he was given a lot of freedom against Newcastle, so it’s important that United’s defenders are tight with him.

“He’s not exactly Erling Haaland, so it shouldn’t be a specific threat because United are at Old Trafford, and you have to be strong at home. Hopefully, Man Utd get their first clean sheet.”

Silvestre added: “The left side is one of the key areas for Brighton. It’s very active and very lively.

But it’s not only up to (Aaron) Wan-Bissaka to stop Mitoma. It’s not a one-man job.”

“Wan-Bissaka is excellent one against one. He is one of the best in the league. So, he has the quality to stop Mitoma.”

    Brighton game 'huge'

Despite his support for Old Trafford chief Erik ten Hag, Alan Smith reckons tomorrow's clash is massive.

Ex-England striker said: "The next game, against Brighton, is huge – nobody wants to play Brighton right now.

"If United beat Brighton, then they'll have won their three home games. The away form needs work, of course, but only Man City are consistently as good away from home as they are at it."

    'United will back Ten Hag'

United have been backed to give manager Erik ten Hag plenty of time to turn around their mediocre start to the season.

Ten Hag's men host Brighton tomorrow after two defeats in two Prem games.

And ex-United frontman Alan Smith believes the Dutch boss has been beset by problems he can't influence – leaving the club in an "in-between stage" .

Smith told BoyleSports: "There's talk of a club sale and reports of unrest in the club. I can't speculate on the situation of the players, but I think it's been tough for Ten Hag as a lot of these things are outside of his control.

"I believe the club will give him time, though, as I can't see the owners pulling the plug on the manager if they're serious about selling.

"If the new owners do arrive, they'll either have a manager in mind, or they'll give him time to build his squad. I don't think there'll be any panic.

"Look at the games they've lost – Tottenham have been rejuvenated, and the game against Arsenal was a close call."

    Sofyan 'something special'

Louis Saha claims Sofyan Amrabat will "bring something special" to his old club.

Ex-Manchester United striker Saha believes the loan recruit from Fiorentina will plug gaps in Erik ten Hag's midfield – and offer a surprising amount going forward.

Morocco star Amrabat hopes to land a permanent switch next summer.

And Saha told Betfred: “The addition of Sofyan means that Manchester United can plug some of the gaps in their midfield and he will bring something special to the team, as well as his leadership credentials.

"I really like the profile of the player and we may look at Sofyan as just a defensive midfielder, but he’s capable of bombing forward, creating chances, recovering the ball and he can disrupt the oppositions attack as much as Casemiro can do.

"It will be interesting to see how the pair of them play together.”

Blame Jadon – not Ten Hag

Erik ten Hag should take NONE of the blame over the Jadon Sancho saga.

That's the verdict of of ex-Manchester United and Leeds striker Alan Smith as Sancho trains alone following an amazing exchange with his Red Devils' boss Ten Hag.

The England winger claimed he was a "scapegoat" after the Dutchman's "untrue" assertion that he was left out against Arsenal because he trained badly.

Smith explained his thinking to BoyleSports.

I don't think Ten Hag, or any manager, can ever be at fault.
Football has changed, though, as the social media aspect has caused internal events to be broadcast to the outside world. Fall-outs between players and managers are common. If you're not playing, then you're not happy. The usual response is to get your head down and focus, but nowadays the feuds are put in the public domain.
If anyone speaks out about the manager, then the player has no future at the club. Those conversations should be kept private. If you've got a problem with your boss at work, you speak to them, and it's done.

    Alan Smith
