- Greenwood has now reportedly held a ‘face-to-face meeting with United bosses’
Manchester United forward Mason Greenwood has reportedly held his first face-to-face meeting with the club’s hierarchy since rape and assault charges against him were dropped.
The charges were dropped earlier this month after the allegations were first made in January 2022.
The 21-year-old, who has since been under investigation by the club, spoke to United officials as part of their ‘internal investigation’, according to The Sun.
United released a short statement regarding their ‘own process’, shortly after the news of the charges being dropped was made public.
It read: ‘Manchester United notes the decision of the Crown Prosecution Service that all charges against Mason Greenwood have been dropped.

‘The club will now conduct its own process before determining next steps. We will not make any further comment until that process is complete.’
According to The Sun, a source said: ‘Greenwood and his team met with the club to start the process of trying to get to the bottom of exactly what may or may not have happened.
‘It is an extremely sensitive situation and the club think it is only fair that Mason is given the opportunity to fully explain himself.
‘The club are keen to hear his version of events. Only when they have the full picture, can they start to move things forward.’
There are various options on the table for United following the investigation – with the club’s hierarchy keen to take their time.
These include selling Greenwood in the summer, terminating his contract, or inviting him back to training.
Greenwood – who has a £70,000-a-week contract until 2025 with the option of a further year at United – will not return to training or playing while this internal probe is ongoing.

Erik ten Hag reportedly called Greenwood to check on his physical and mental state
It has also been reported that Greenwood has since spoken to his United teammates – as well as speaking to Erik ten Hag.
According to The Sun, the 21-year-old England international has met with some team-mates, as the squad continue to be divided over whether he should wear a United shirt again.
Ten Hag has also reportedly reached out to Greenwood to check on the player’s physical and mental state, and told the 21-year-old he was happy that the charges had been dropped.
While United hope to complete the internal investigation before the end of the campaign and are under intense pressure to do so, the fact that it shows no signs of concluding anytime soon means Greenwood is not expected to feature before the end of the campaign.
