Michael Smith's wait for a major victory goes on after he lost his eighth straight final at the European Championships to Ross Smith.
Bully Boy has notoriously struggled in TV finals and was unable to break the curse in Dortmund as his namesake beat him 11-8, contrastingly claiming his first TV title in his first final.
Ross got off to a flyer at the Westfalenhallen, hitting a 180 and then a 133 checkout to break Michael's throw in the opening leg before following that up with a 121 to make it 2-0.
Smudger also took the third leg thanks to a second 180 but saw his throw broken in the fourth after Michael registered his first maximum. It was soon all level as Bully Boy made it three legs on the bounce.
But Ross again drew ahead and didn't make the same mistake again, going up 7-4, 8-5 and then 9-7. Michael looked to be back in it as he took the 17th leg.
