Michael van Gerwen casts doubt over Premier League Darts future as he reveals he is 'fed up' | The Sun

MICHAEL VAN GERWEN has cast serious doubt on his Premier League Darts future.

The 33-year-old Dutchman is a three-time PDC World Champion, having won the title in 2014, 2017 and 2019.

He agonisingly missed out on a fourth crown in January in one of the most spectacular matches witnessed at Ally Pally against Michael Smith.

Bully Boy finally banished all the tears and broken bones to become world champion with a 7-4 victory over a crushed Van Gerwen.

Last night he failed to score any points during the ninth round of the Premier League Darts as Jonny Clayton beat him 6-5 in his opening game.

Van Gerwen only managed to record an average of just 89.

And during an interview with Viaplay afterwards the legend admitted that he is struggling to motivate himself.

He said: “It was a mess, the sharpness wasn't there tonight. But this format demands it.

“At times, it's quite boring. I said that last year, and again now.”

Van Gerwen is a six-time Premier League champion added: “I always want to win, but today I did not have the right attitude and of course that is not good.

“I'm obviously fed up with losing, but I'm even more fed up with sitting here for 3.5 hours preparing for nothing.”

The current Premier League Darts format involves seven matches being played on a night.

Eight players work through a tournament that starts with a quarter-final, semi-final and final, which results in each individual facing each other multiple times during the competition.
