Peter Wright sprung one of the biggest upsets of the Premier League darts season so far by thrashing world champion Michael Smith – and having some fun with the crowd in the process.
Wright went into week 10 in Birmingham with just one win and two points to his name following an abysmal campaign for the two-time world champions
Snakebite was pitted against 2023 Ally Pally king Smith in the quarter-finals and it was Bully Boy who took the first leg. However, Wright came roaring back, winning the next six legs on the spin to advance to the semi-finals for just the second time this season.

Smith started off as the fan favourite, with Wright being heavily booed as he tried to close out one leg. When he hit the double he needed with a final dart of a visit, he turned and jokingly shushed fans inside the arena.
In another leg there was a piece of Snakebike magic as he took out 125 with bull, 25, bull. Smith had no answer to Wright’s charge, leaving the world champ’s hopes of finishing in the top four and reaching the play-offs at the O2 hanging in the balance.

Fans were left stunned by the performance of Wright, who has struggled for form since clinching his second world title in 2022. One said: “Absolutely outrageous checkout that 125!” Another added: "Great win for Peter, good luck in the semi-final.” A third hailed: “Sir, this was awesome! @snakebitewright.”
Wright then followed up that win by defeating the sport's in-form player at present, Gerwyn Price, 6-5 in the semi-finals. Wright led 5-2 before Price mounted a fightback. But Snakebite held his nerve in the decider to book his first final appearance of the season against Jonny Clayton.
