Premier League forgotten man who cost £16m is scoring goals for fun after making transfer to Spain | The Sun

PREMIER LEAGUE forgotten man Borja Baston is scoring for fun in the Spanish second division.

The striker signed for Swansea in a club record deal worth £16million back in 2016 and later moved to Aston Villa.

The 30-year-old has made 20 appearances in the Premier League and scored just once.

Swansea signed him from Atletico Madrid after he enjoyed a fantastic loan spell at LaLiga side Eibar, where he netted 19 times in one season.

It earned him his big money move to Wales, but he never settled and was loaned out to Malaga and Deportivo Alaves the following years.

Baston then returned to Swansea to score six goals in the Championship before eventually agreeing to have his contract ripped up.

Aston Villa then made the shock move to sign him on a free transfer in January 2020.

He would play just twice before being released after only six months at Villa Park.

However, his career is beginning to look up again as he enjoys a fantastic year in his homeland of Spain with Real Oviedo.

Baston has scored 10 goals for the club this season and captains the side.

Oviedo are in a battle to stay up, sitting just five points above the relegation zone.

Currently occupying one of the spots is Malaga, one of Baston's former clubs, just ten years after they made the Champions League quarter-final.

They have been eyed by potential Man Utd owner Sheikh Jassim and the Qatar Sports Investment Fund as a feeder club for the Red Devils and Paris Saint-Germain in the future.
