Raymond van Barneveld jokes about his Playmobil hair as darts fans crack up

Raymond van Barneveld has left darts fans in stitches, after joking about his 'Playmobil hair' in an amusing post on Twitter.

Van Barneveld has always been a favourite with the fans, and once again left his followers smiling following his social media post on Friday. The Dutchman was seen posing in a store with a Playmobil toy made into a darts player.

Poking fun at himself, the 55-year-old compared his own look to the Playmobil figurine following his recent hair transplant. Along with the picture, Barney wrote: "Always been a big fan of @playmobil with my 'Playmobil Hair'.

"Thought I’d say it before someone else does!" The Dutchman's fans were quick to respond, with @SimonDartPunk replying: "The best Playmobil I've seen," whilst @Stowdarts added: "Brilliant."

Another follower – @PAULchizzy5 – called for Lego to follow suit in making a replica Barney, as they added: "This is great! Ordered this morning! Just need Lego to get their act together and replicate Barnsley Metrodome."

Meanwhile, following years of success, Van Barneveld got darts fans smiling again after returning to the PDC Pro Tour. The Dutchman initially gave up his tour card in 2019, before making his return to the sport seven months later.

Following his comeback, Barney gave a moving interview in which he candidly opened up on his depression that came after calling time on his career. Speaking back in 2021, he told The Sun: "When I was beaten by Darin it felt like the floor was gone under my feet. I thought: ‘Wow, this isn’t happening.’ I gave a stupid interview to Sky Sports.

"I was devastated. This was my only and last chance ever. I couldn’t forgive myself… Later that month I stayed with my girlfriend Julia in London. I was really depressed with Christmas as well. Never happy.

“Julia helped me through it. On January 1, I said to myself: ‘Ray, this needs to stop. You still have a fantastic life, had a fantastic career, a lovely new girlfriend, kids and family.’ I said now we’ll stop this – and show them the new better Ray in 2020. Three months later, I feel more energised, I don’t play with stress anymore.”
