'Return on investment is a lock' – Drake places huge $1million bet on Adesanya to beat Cannonier at UFC 276 | The Sun

MUSIC superstar Drake has placed a whopping $1million bet on Israel Adesanya to retain his middleweight title this weekend.

The Last Stylebender will defend his 185lb strap against Jared Cannonier early on Sunday morning in the main event of UFC 276 in Las Vegas.

Adesanya, 32, has swept all comers in the middleweight division with ease and is the bookies' favourite to leave International Fight Week with his strap in tow.

MMA superfan Drake doesn't foresee anything other than an Adesanya win coming to fruition, so much so he's staked a staggering $1million (£826,000) on the Nigerian-born New Zealander having his hand raised.

Drizzy revealed his hefty wager during a late-night FaceTime with the surging superstar.

The 'Hotline Bling' star said during the call: “Bro, I already know what time it is. You know, I put a light million up.”

Adesanya, who was still cutting weight for the official weigh-ins, asked: “Light mil?”

Drake replied: “A light mill. I had to put a light mil on my brother. Return on investment is a lock.”

The Canadian later said: “I just want to wish you good luck.

“You know I love you, brother. You’re different. You’re a different guy, bro.

Adesanya will be hoping he doesn't fall victim to the 'Drake curse' that has befallen several fighters and sports teams.

Justin Gaethje fell victim to it after Drake placed £346,000 on him to beat Charles Oliveira in May.

Jorge Masvidal was also struck by it in March when Drake laid a whopping £223,000 ($275,000) bet on him to win his UFC 272 grudge match with Colby Covington.

Covington revelled in leaving left the global superstar out of pocket after his decision victory, saying: "Let's talk about all the money Drake lost tonight.

"He needs to go back to selling those s****y albums to get back the money.

"He should've gone to America's Pick of the Week by My Bookie. I tried to give the people the pick of the week.
