2.30: CARLA’S WAY did plenty wrong at Doncaster on debut, yet still stretched away to win comfortably and looks one of several potentially class acts on show here. Runner-up Star Of Mystery bolted up by 11 lengths next time out to boost the form and the selection’s sire boasts a good record at this track, so she gains the vote over NAVASSA ISLAND, Porta Fortuna and Jabaara.

3.05: LITTLE BIG BEAR put his sprint career back on track with a smooth victory at Haydock last time and has been touted as the Ballydoyle banker of the week. It is open to question whether his price deserves to be so short, but he gamely won the Windsor Castle Stakes here 12 months ago and is capable of brilliance. LEZOO has only been beaten once in four starts at six furlongs and looks a major player now she returns to Ascot.

Tahiyra is the favourite to win the Coronation Stakes but could be challenged by Mediate
3.40: The decision to geld TEUMESSIAS FOX appears to have worked the oracle, with the son of Lope De Vega winning both his starts at Kempton and Newmarket. The selection was unfortunate in a handicap here last summer when he could not gain a clear passage in the straight but he can gain compensation a year on. There are more unexposed horses than HMS PRESIDENT and this trip could be a little on the short side, but his track record suggests he should go well again.

4.20: TAHIYRA possesses push-button acceleration and, with that in mind, is fancied to win this event comprehensively. The ability to quicken twice in a race is rare but the daughter of Siyouni boasts that ability and it may be the attribute which sets Chris Hayes’s mount apart once again from old adversary MEDITATE, ridden today by Ryan Moore. The duo met last season in the English and Irish Guineas, as well as the Moyglare at the Curragh, and the score stands at 3-0 to Tahiyra. There should be more to come from Queen For You but she needs to step up markedly on the evidence of her two starts to date.

Derby runner-up King of Steel should be a contender in the penultimate race of the day
5.00: Victory for Tahiyra, or to a lesser extent Meditate or Comhra, in the previous race would advertise the claims of JACKIE OH here, given she was a creditable fifth in the Irish Guineas, less than six lengths behind the impressive winner. The daughter of Galileo didn’t enjoy the clearest of runs at the Curragh and looks capable of making her presence felt in a handicap for the first time. DREAM OF LOVE failed to fire in the Guineas but this is a more fitting assignment.

5.35: Taking on trust that Derby runner-up KING OF STEEL has recovered from his exertions three weeks ago might not be for everyone at such a short price. However, he was unfortunate to run into a class colt at Epsom and the pace he displayed to break open the Derby could leave his rivals trailing. Arrest found the fast ground against him in the Derby and could bounce back, but ARTISTIC STAR ran an incredible race to take seventh despite being detached at one point and he may be the chief threat.

6.10: RHYTHM N HOOVES has yet to win away from a synthetic track, but horses that perform on all-weather surfaces often find the Ascot straight to their liking, so he is a tentative pick here. Although beaten at York last time, the selection was hardly disgraced. WALBANK is afforded one last chance with the blinkers added as he was only beaten a couple of lengths in last year’s Norfolk Stakes.

MARBAAN and THE X O (3.05) – Little Big Bear dominates the market following his Sandy Lane win, so value-seekers may prefer an each-way play on two horses that acquitted themselves well at Ascot in the trial for this race last month. 33-1 and 66-1
HMS PRESIDENT (3.40) – Four trips to Ascot have yielded form figures of 4242 for the six-year-old, who looks to have improved for a switch to Alan King’s stable this term. Newmarket win on his latest start was a career best and his profile suggests he is a decent each-way bet. 25-1
ROCKET RODNEY (6.10) – Badly needed his first run back at York, but had the quality to finish a close second to Little Big Bear in the Windsor Castle Stakes 12 months ago, so could be worth an each-way bet in handicap company for the first time. 28-1
