SERIE A is set to introduce a new rule that will ban football clubs from using certain kits.

The new regulations will stop clubs from being able to use green away kits, as well as limit teams to having just one striped kit.

The decision to bring in the rule by the Italian league has been decided in order to help with virtual advertising.

During the televising of matches, some players in green kits had been "disappearing" from the picture.

Clubs will also have to design their away kits to be very different from home strips.

If the home kit is predominantly dark, the away will have to be light and vice versa.

If strips are striped or checkered, then the alternative shirt will not be able to have any of the same colours on it, except in small details.

The rule will come into place for the start of the 2023-24 season and will be mandatory from the 2024-25 campaign.

The colour green will still be allowed on the club's home strips, so Serie A side Sassuolo will be able to keep their traditional kit.

Many clubs also have traditionally had stripes on their jerseys, with league giants AC Milan, Inter Milan and Juventus all boasting the style.

However, from now, if they want to keep their traditional home shirts, then their alternates will not be able to have stripes.

With the new rules, clubs will also have to make sure goalkeepers have three different options in order to avoid clashes.

The ban was attempted in 2021, when Serie A tried to outlaw green kits, but it was not successful then.

At that time, the argument was that television companies complained that the players wearing green blended in with the grass.
