Sir Nick Faldo has questioned Rory McIlroy’s concentration levels after the Northern Irishman gave an on-course interview at the Masters on Thursday.
As the opening day of the green jacket tournament got underway, McIlroy gave a live interview to a tournament broadcaster as he walked down one of the course’s famous fairways.
McIlroy limped to an equal score round and currently sits just above the predicted day two cut of +1 heading into Friday’s second day at Augusta.
Known for breaking the record course for his major-winning talents, McIlroy broke another record on his opening round as he became the first player to speak to the studio mid-round at the Masters.
However, former three-time Masters champion Faldo was less than impressed as he told the 33-year-old to give ‘100% concentration’ to his game.

Posting on his Twitter, Faldo wrote: ‘Every interview I’ve done this week is all about giving 100% concentration to yourself and the task at hand, so why?’
Mcllroy faced a 110 yard chip onto the green after his initial drive on the ninth tee nicknamed ‘Carolina Cherry’.
His chip landed on the lower tier of the green and rolled back towards the Masters hopeful as he then used a bluetooth earphone to began his interview.
The four-time major champion outlined what had gone wrong for him on the hole as he told his interviewers: ‘Yeah I just eased off on it a little bit.

‘I think just in the back of my mind – obviously you don’t want to go long on this pin.’
‘So, yeah I just eased off of it – probably pitched it five or six yards shorter than I wanted to. So… I at least got that putt up the hill, hopefully have a decent look at it.
‘If I don’t hole it, then get it around the hole, you know start the back nine afresh,’ he said.
Faldo’s criticism contrasts others who were left fascinated by McIlroy’s interview and praised the broadcaster for giving viewers ‘extraordinary access’ to the golf superstar.
