Ten Hag losing more games than Solskjaer has to be called out… the results are NOT good enough, warns Man Utd legend | The Sun

DWIGHT YORKE has questioned the so-called improvement at Manchester United under Erik ten Hag.

The club legend has suggested that the Dutchman's record in the Premier League has "not been good enough".

Yorke, 51, also pointed out that the Red Devils have lost more league games this season (nine) than in either of former manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's full seasons in charge (eight in 2019-20 and six in 2020-21).

Now coaching, the former striker was team-mates with Solskjaer during the club's famous Treble win in 1999.

And he thinks that Ten Hag should be "called out" on his record.

He told King Casino Bonus: "Erik ten Hag losing nine games in the Premier League does raise some issues.

"If you are a Manchester United manager, you will always be scrutinised for little details or mistakes. There's nowhere to hide.

"Ole Gunnar Solskjaer had a better record than Ten Hag in his full two seasons managing the club, people talk about the progress we've made and the better style of football being played.

"Manchester United have reached the FA Cup final, won the Carabao Cup, and made it far in the Europa League so that is progress, but Ten Hag losing more Premier League games than Solskjaer in the 2019/20 and 2020/21 seasons has to be called out.

"The results have not been good enough this season, Manchester United are looking over their shoulder and are desperately trying to hold on to fourth place, I'm not sure that's where the club wants to be.

"Ten Hag gets the praise when the team is playing well, he has to take the criticism when it goes wrong too."

While Yorke is correct in saying Ten Hag has lost more league games this season than Solskjaer did in his two full seasons, the stats tell a different story when comparing their first 34 league games.

Both managers lost nine league games, whereas Erik ten Hag has won three more (19) than Solskjaer (16).

However, the team has scored 49 goals, six fewer than under Solskjaer, and conceded 41 goals, one more than under the axed boss.

But under Ten Hag there has been more than double the number of clean sheets (15) than the team only managed (7) with Solskjaer.

In total, Ten Hag has overseen 57 matches in all competitions since his appointment last summer, winning 37, drawing nine and losing 11.

This is notably better than his Norweigan predecessor in the same period.

In Solskjaer's first 57 games in charge, the team only won 29, drew 13 and lost 15.

Ten Hag has also led the club to victory in the Carabao Cup and to the final of the FA Cup.

However, the club did make a disappointing exit in the Europa League and are yet to secure their spot in the Champions League next season.

Liverpool are only one point behind the Red Devils, who have a game in hand, and are in better form heading into the final games of the season.

There have also been alarm bells during Ten Hag's reign as manager with the heavy defeats to Liverpool and Brentford as well as sloppy defeats to Brighton and West Ham this month.

Solskjaer was able to lead the club to third and second-placed finishes as well as a Europa League final in 2021.

But he was heavily criticised for his style of play and was eventually sacked in November 2021 after a poor start to the season saw the club collect just 17 points from 12 matches.
