Watch moment 'Colonel Sanders' evades security and sprints across green and jumps in lake to celebrate Ryder Cup win | The Sun

A European Ryder Cup fan – who has been compared to Colonel Sanders – jumped into a LAKE moments after Tommy Fleetwood clinched the trophy for Luke Donald's men.

Fleetwood, 32, made sure of victory on the 16th hole after going two up against Rickie Fowler – with Europe needing just half a point to win.

And the result was then made official on the 17th as Fowler conceded victory as Europe reclaimed the title.

Scenes ensued among the Rome crowd as the European fans descended into jubilant celebrations.

And one man opted to sprint across the green and jump into the lake.

The grey-haired gentleman was caught on camera evading security, before he ditched his hat as he darted towards the lake.

He then leapt into the water and began thrashing about in celebration.

And many European golf fans followed suit as they could be seen jumping into the lake.

But it was the man who sprinted across the green that grabbed most of the social media attention as many compared him to Sanders – the founder of KFC.

One said: "Colonel Sanders is loving life."

Fleetwood was over the moon to have sealed Europe's victory after a host of sensational performances from Donald's 12-man team across the three days in Italy.

Speaking to Sky Sports after the win, Fleetwood said: "I didn't want it to come down to one of us at the back.

"I can't wait to see the rest of the guys, the captain, the vice captains, our wives, our families and the staff.

"I'm so happy to play a part in it. It's been a bit bigger than I thought it would be when I saw the draw.

"I'm so proud. We have an amazing group of people, we always do. This year has been very different and the landscape has changed for Team Europe but I couldn't wish for a better bunch of people to do with this.

"We are one gigantic family and the bonds you make last a lifetime. This is just so cool."
