Darts legend Wayne Mardle wants Jim Bowen back on Bullseye – as a hologram.
He reckons it would be a super, smashing great idea – despite the fact he’s been dead five years. Mardle said he snubbed an invitation to go on the rebooted show as he didn’t like its host Dave Spikey.
He fumed: “Back in the 90s I would have paid money to be on there, but I was not prepared to go on that show when it was a farce with Spikey.

“In my opinion they should have let the show die, and if any execs are reading this and wondering about another reboot I say this: Bullseye should stay off air until technology and budgets allow a convincing Jim Bowen hologram to take the show back under his virtual wing.”
The telly show was fronted by Bowen from 1981 to 1995. It was brought back in 2006 with Spikey alongside original co-host Tony Green.

Mardle moaned he was “hardly filling the master’s shoes”. He said: “I’m no TV critic and the closest thing I have to a media studies
degree is a subscription to TV Times, but my assessment of the Bullseye reboot is that it was a load of old s***e.
The flamboyant 50-year-old – nicknamed Hawaii 501 – took aim at Spikey in his book Slinging Arrows, which has a new edition out on Thursday.
He added: “The genius of Jim Bowen is that he displayed an almost superhuman degree of empathy and warmth with everyone on Bullseye, from darts pros who’d missed a key shot to contestants who were down on their luck.”
These days, Mardle is best known for his work as a pundit on Sky Sports, giving his expert opinion of the PDC's biggest tournaments, from the World Darts Championship to the Premier League.
