It doesn’t take much for 7-foot-4 Victor Wembanyama to get heads turning, but it was certainly justified on Sunday when he produced an incredible one-handed dunk – off his own missed three-pointer.
The 19-year-old Frenchman, who is bound for the NBA in this year’s draft, is currently plying his trade for Metropolitans 92 in his home country, with the team currently getting far more eyeballs on their games than would usually be expected.
That was the case again this week for their game against Monaco, with Wembanyama lining up at center, and he produced a moment of magic to wow the crowd.
After dribbling the ball on the left, he stepped back to shoot a three-point jump shot – but missed.
The ball then bounced back off the rim, only for Wembanyama to make his way through a crowd of bodies to slam home with one hand, sending the crowd wild.

And it wasn’t just the fans inside the arena that were left shocked – he also got a lot of traction online when the NBA’s official Twitter account reposted the clip. Incredibly, it had been viewed nearly 10million times as of Monday morning.
Reacting to the video, one NBA fan said: ‘He’s not human’, while another added: ‘This is fake, I don’t care what anybody says.’
There were plenty of team-specific fans desperately praying that he ends up with them come June’s NBA Draft, as the Frenchman gets set for his star to rise even further when he arrives in the NBA.
It is widely anticipated that he will go No 1 overall, and May 16 is the date circled in everyone’s diaries as the lottery decides which team has the highly-coveted first pick in 2023.
Wembanyama is likely to be the most highly-sought after prospect to head into the league since LeBron James in 2003.
