What happened to Gareth Bale after retiring from football?

After the 2022 FIFA World Cup, Gareth Bale announced his retirement from professional football.

At 33-years-old the Welsh forward made his decision to step down from the sport he loves at a relatively young age.

Since then, he has enjoyed some family time while taking part in golf tournaments also.

Bale was given the nickname "The Golfer" towards the end of his Madrid career when he saw little game time and turned his attentions to improving his golf handicap.

He famously sported a flag which said "Wales, golf, Madrid. In that order" after helping his country qualify for Euro 2020.

In 2019 he married his partner Emma Rhys-Jones, the couple have four children together.

Alba Violet was born in 2012, Nava Valentina born in 2016, Axel Charles born in May 2018 and Xander Frank Bale, who they welcomed in July 2021.

Bale has enjoyed being able to have some quality family time without the pressures and constant training/travelling that came with being a professional footballer.

They have posted pictures to Instagram enjoying skiing holidays and even a trip to Las Vegas to attend an Adele concert.

Could Gareth Bale become a professional golfer?

After finishing his football career, Gareth Bale entered the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am tournament.

He and his partner, Joseph Bramlett, were 16th in the tournament before the competition fell foul to the weather.

Despite enjoying his time on the course, he has not mentioned any further tournament entries.

Bale ended 2022 with a handicap of two, which is low for an amateur, but still strives to get the zero which is required for professionals.

With so much free time now retired, Bale should be able to focus on that relatively quickly.

Once the world's most expensive footballer, Gareth Bale is still getting accustomed to life outside of the game.

He has looked to invest in opening his own bar in his hometown of Cardiff.

"Elevens" opened in the capital city in May 2017.

Since then his bar has co-opened another establishment called "Par59", a golf-themed bar.

He recently attended Wales' European Championship qualifier against Latvia where he was given a hero's welcome before his country's 1-0 win, thanks to a Kieffer Moore goal.
