Fatima Whitbread found fame after becoming a record breaking javelin thrower.
The star was born on 3 March 1961 in London and had a difficult childhood before being adopted.
Fatima Vedad was adopted by the family of Margaret Whitbread who worked as a javelin coach.
Before this, she grew up in a series of children's homes, occasionally being left in the care of her biological mother.

How many medals has Fatima Whitbread won?
Fatima has had a successful sporting career and has won multiple medals.
Throughout her career she has managed to to win 10 top three medals.
In 1979 she won gold in the European Junior Championships shortly before coming third in the Commonwealth Games in 1982.
In the 1983 World Championships Fatima came second which was the year before the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics where she earned a bronze medal.

Fatima got a bronze medal at the 1985 IAAF World Cup.
The 1986 Commonwealth Games saw the star javelin thrower come second before winning gold at the European Championships and second at the Grand Prix Final the same year.
In the 1987 World Championships Fatima got another gold in Italy and in the 1988 Olympics she won a silver medal.

Fatima was married to Andrew Norman between 1997 to 2006.
The pair had one son together.
Andrew passed away in 2007 from a heart attack.
