He was born on May 11, 1987, in Auchi, Nigeria.
He fights in the Welterweight divsion, and is a former champion in the weight class, making five successful defences of the title between 2019 and 2021.
He lost his belt to Britain's Leon Edwards in August 2022. Usman was leading on points before the Birmingham man knocked him out with a head kick with less than a minute left in the fight.

Usman began his MMA career in November 2012, fighting under various promotions until appearing in the Ultimate Fighter, and winning a UFC contract.
He has an overall record of 20 wins and two losses.

Kamaru Usman's first fight as a UFC athlete was his original bout with Edwards in December 2015.
He reeled off 14 straight wins under the promotion, culminating in his rematch loss against Birmingham's Edwards.
