34-year-old soap star Cody Longo's cause of death confirmed

Former Days of Our Lives star Cody Longo died as a result of chronic drinking, according to reports.

The actor, who played Nicholas Alamain in the NBC daytime soap, was found in bed at a home in Austin, Texas on February 8 at the age of 34.

Longo’s wife, Stephanie, was at work at a dance studio on the day in question and became concerned when she struggled to get in touch with her husband, contacting police to check on him.

After receiving no response, cops were forced to kick down the door.

A cause of death was not confirmed at the time, but according to the autopsy report, seen by TMZ, Longo died from ‘chronic ethanol abuse’.

Stephanie spoke with TMZ following her husband’s death, revealing that he was really working hard on himself to fight for his children after past struggles with alcoholism, for which he entered rehab last summer.

‘He was an amazing father and the best husband,’ she said.

Longo appeared in Days Of Our lives back in 2011, becoming the fourth actor to play the role of Nicolas Alamain.

Nicolas had previously been played by Eric von Detten, Victor Webber and Jackson Davis.

Longo took over the role in 2011 and appeared in a total of eight episodes for a storyline that saw Nicolas return to Salem to see mum Carly in rehab, where he apologised for the way in which he had treated her previously.

The later star would later go on to star in Bring It On: Fight to The Finish, as well as a number of episodes of popular TV series Nashville in 2016.

His most frequent on-screen appearance, however, came in Hollywood Heights, in which he played Eddie Duran for 78 episodes in 2012.

The show lasted one season.
