A Place in the Sun: Couple shocked when their initial offer was is accepted
On Tuesday evening, A Place in the Sun viewers watched on as property expert Ben Hillman was stunned as one couple got an incredible deal.
Throughout the episode, fans of the Channel 4 show learned that couple Shirley and Martyn wanted to find their dream holiday home near Monpazier, in France.
With a maximum budget of £285,000, Ben was tasked with finding a home that met all of the couple’s requirements.
As they wanted a three-bedroom home with traditional French features, a pool, land and outbuildings, Ben had his work cut out for him.
However, when he showed them around a renovated Farmhouse in Goujounac, Shirley and Martyn were blown away.

With four acres of land, a barn and an annexe with two bedrooms, there was nothing about the property that they disliked.
After having some time to think about it, the couple decided they’d like to put an offer in.
Although there was still some renovation work that needed to be completed, they weren’t keen on the full asking price of just over £250,000.
Speaking to Ben, Martyn said: “It’s nearly finished, but it’s still effort. What we decided amongst ourselves last night was we’d be willing to go up to £235,00.

“That would keep us all in budget and everybody happy. We’re going to start lower than that because you can always go up but you can never go down.”
In the end, they proposed an initial offer of £225,000, which was £27,000 lower than the asking price.
Shirley commented: “It tests the waters, doesn’t it? We’ve got to start somewhere.”
Calling the estate agent, Ben revealed the couple’s offer as he highlighted the price reflected the work that needed to be carried out.
After a short while, they got a call back from the agent revealing the owner had accepted their offer without any negotiations.
Ben said: “Deal, deal. That’s like the deal of the century! That is just the best.”
As he revealed they’d got their dream home Shirley and Martyn couldn’t believe it as they thanked the expert for his help.
