All Creatures Great and Small season 4 trailer
All Creatures Great and Small saw the arrival of Richard Carmody (played by James Anthony-Rose) on Thursday night, with the actor praising Nicholas Ralph for helping him on his first day.
After Tristan Farnon’s (Callum Woodhouse) departure, the team recruited veterinary student Carmody who is set to cause some chaos and uncertainty within the firm.
Carmody actor James Anthony-Rose praised Nicholas Ralph, who plays James Herriot in the Channel 5 series, for being welcoming and calming his nerves.
Speaking to Express.co.uk and other press, James said: “Everyone was just so welcoming in bringing me into the group.
“I was aware that they had been doing this and playing these characters for three or four years now so they are very well established in their dynamic and their parts but they were so welcoming in bringing me in.

“And Nicholas is such a brilliant company leader and, this being my biggest TV gig to date, I knew that he had had a similar thing where this was his television debut.
“He just took to it so naturally and brilliantly that it is funny hearing stories of him being sort of such a fish out of water.
“Now seeing him as this brilliant company leader who takes everything in his stride and you know he is great with fans on location so I was learning a lot just by watching him, I felt in very safe hands.”
When discussing whether he was nervous on his first day, James added: “I suppose there was a bit of nerves because I knew that the focus was on me.
“I had not really had a part like this where I was having a whole storyline and trajectory and the other thing that happens of course is everything is filmed out of chronological order.

“Ultimately everyone put me at my ease very quickly because everyone was just so at ease themselves so you just followed their guiding hand really.”
Thursday’s first episode saw the Darrowby enter Spring of 1940 and change is on the horizon for everyone in Skeldale House.
Throughout the series, James and Helen Herriot (Rachel Shenton) wonder when the right time might be to start a family, not knowing whether or not James will be called up to serve in the RAF.
Tristan’s absence is felt by all, but no one more than Siegfried Farnon (Samuel West) who attempts to hold the growing household, and himself, together as he braves this new world.
Mrs Hall (Anna Madeley) and Helen’s friendship blossoms as they look to the future and new trainee veterinary student Richard Carmody arrives, causing complications in the house.
All Creatures Great and Small airs Thursdays from 9pm on Channel 5.
