American Idol: Katy Perry offers hopeful a second audition
ABC viewers confessed feeling “old” after a fan-favourite star returned to American Idol for this Sunday’s Hollywood Week. Season two runner-up Clay Aiken made his comeback at the weekend to coach the hit show’s newcomers alongside fellow alumni Jordin Sparks and Phillip Phillips.
American Idol season two second place star Clay Aiken returned to offer his advice during the most recent episode on Sunday.
With a reported net worth of around $4million, his experience post-show has definitely been a positive one.
Since scooping the runner-up prize in the popular TV singing competition programme in 2003, he has sold more than five million albums.
Getting back to his reality roots, Clay worked with singers, including Fire and Zachariah, as they continued their journey on American Idol.
Speaking ahead of his appearance, Clay told ABC11: “When we checked in last night to the hotel, here right next to us there was a kid.
“[He was] a contestant and it reminded me that yeah, I had to get here and check myself in, by myself that day.
“It’s almost in a way sort of the last moment of innocence really was that the beginning of Hollywood Week because after that it all took off and it’s been like that for 20 years.”
It was during Sunday’s episode that he worked with contestant Fire.
Clay worked with Fire on confidence, telling her she was there because she “deserved to be”.
She initially missed out on a position in the competition after her audition in New Orleans, but Katy Perry urged her to come back in Nashville.
Despite being a great coach, Clay’s appearance was somewhat distracting for some viewers.
