Professional quizzer Anne Hegerty, 64, has been part of The Chase since 2010 as her alter-ego The Governess. The Chase has proved to be so popular, spawning a celebrity edition of the show where famous faces try their luck against the quizzers to win cash for charity. During her time on The Chase, Anne has taken on the likes of the late actor Bernard Cribbins, Loose Women star Stacey Solomon, and comedian Rufus Hound, among many others.

Reflecting on who she wanted to see on the show, Anne said about the possibility of Sir Tom Jones: “I’d just be fangirling all over him.”

The star went on to say: “I always say it would be lovely to have Stephen Fry because he’s so smart but I can’t imagine him ever saying yes.”

Anne continued: “He knows an enormous amount, I think. How organised his knowledge is and how fast he can get it up to the surface, I don’t know.

“I don’t know what he’s like on speed quiz. He can come and play bingo with us, he’s very welcome.”

Given The Chase has had all manner of stars on the show over the years, Sir Tom or Stephen would be a welcome addition.

Sir Tom is currently serving as a coach on The Voice, while Stephen previously was the host of BBC quiz show QI.

Interestingly, Sir Tom has come up as a question on The Chase after a contestant was asked during a quick-fire round: “Which Welsh singer is the main character in the musical, Tom?”

The answer was Tom Jones but the contestant crumbled under pressure and answered Charlotte Church.

Anne continues to stay busy, filming more episodes of The Chase with the quiz series remaining a firm teatime favourite.

She said the team was trying to get a load of episodes “under our belt” with lots of episodes shot.

The star is going to be appearing in a panto production of Beauty and the Beast in Swindon, taking on the role of Fairy Flutterby.

She said: “You can imagine me being quite fluttery in a sort of galumphing way. So, quite looking for to that.”

Anne is also going to be taking part in Gala Bingo’s Hot Air Balloon Tea Rooms, where she and some of the other Chasers will be playing bingo with members of the public over a cuppa and a piece of cake.

She said: “This coming Friday and Saturday we’re going to be at Potters Field’s Park, which is just near Tower Bridge and we have giant hot air balloons – I don’t think we’re actually going up in the hot air balloon although who can say?

“If you just go and look for the hot air balloons, there will be free cups of tea – if you book in advance – and there’s cake and playing bingo with the Chasers. Three Chasers – there’s me, and The Beast and The Dark Destroyer.”

She added: “What’s better than a cup of tea and a game of bingo?”

The event takes place today (October 14) and tomorrow (October 15) starting at 1pm and going on until 5pm.

The Chase has also got a spin-off series Beat the Chasers, where members of the public take on multiple quizzers in the hopes of winning big.

The Chase continues to go from strength to the strength with Beat the Chasers triumphing at last night’s (October 13) National Television Awards after it won in the Best Quiz show category.

Anne attended the glitzy ceremony at London’s Wembley Arena, where she joked: “I feel like a complete fraud because I’m basically holding an award for a show I wasn’t in. But I’m here and I’ve the award.”

While host Bradley Walsh said about being on stage to accept the accolade: “It was wonderful. It was nice being with all the gang again.

“When I say it’s deserved of everyone, I literally mean every from back in the day when we first started it.”

Adding: “11 years, this spin-off show has taken on a whole new meaning. It’s fantastic. I love working on it. It’s great fun.”

Anne Hegerty will be joining consumers this weekend at Gala Bingo’s Hot Air Balloon Tea Rooms, inspired by iconic bingo call, number 3 Cup of Tea, which will bring people together through their love of bingo, and where a little joy goes a long way.
