An Antiques Roadshow guest was left utterly speechless when he found out the eye-watering value of his vintage watch.
The hit BBC antiques show took a trip to Sefton Park in the heart of Liverpool on Sunday night (June 18), and it wasn’t long before viewers got a peek at a very pricey accessory.
Originally, the collector had brought in an vintage sewing machine, but antiques expert Ronnie Archer-Morgan was quick to brush off the well-oiled machine and gravitated to his classic time piece.
The owner’s watch was a genuine vintage Rolex GMT Master which was purchased back in 1968 for his 21st birthday.
The priceless accessory featured a Pepsi blue and red bezel on the front which was topped with guild print that still glistened in the sunlight.
The owner opened with “What do you think of my sewing machine then?” to which Ronnie cheekily replied: “Well I’m a lot more interested in your watch actually.”
Taken slightly aback, the client shakily took his watch off his wrist and handed it to him as they discussed the priceless accessory.
Ronnie said: "Obviously, you know this is a Rolex but it looks like the bezel has been changed to me. Has this had, what they call a Pepsi bezel which is red and blue?" which the owner confirmed.
He said: "Yes. My parents bought it in 1968 for my 21st and they'd done it on higher purchase, so much on the knock as we say."
The expert continued: "You know because this is a GMT Master. I mean, this isn't my area anymore but it used to be and I used to do wristwatches.
"You know these are really collectable, everybody wants these. As it is I reckon this is between £8-10,000 but if it had the original bezel this would be between £14-15,000."
"Ooh I think it's time to get the bezel changed then," he replied as Ronnie agreed: "I think so! This is a very, very lovely piece."
