Axed ITV Big Brother star slams claims contestants are copying iconic housemates

Big Brother star Hallie Clarke has shut down claims that contestants from the 2023 series are copying iconic former housemates such as Gemma Collins and the late Nikki Grahame.

The 18-year-old star was the third person to be evicted from the famous house last week and she's since hit back at allegations that her co-stars have been mimicking previous show legends in a bid to win over viewers and get airtime.

Former housemate Imogen Thomas, who appeared on Big Brother 7 in 2006, recently told Daily Star that she thinks Hallie and Kerry were copying her late friend Nikki, who sadly passed away in 2021 from complications of anorexia nervosa at the age of 38.

She said: "I think the new housemates are trying to copy Nikki. They know how popular she was, and the way she'd have those tantrums, and they are trying to imitate her and do the same because they want the popularity but people will see through it because when they do it it's not natural.

"Especially when Kerry had a wobble the other day, and Hallie. I was thinking 'What was that?. It really felt like it was spoilt brat-ish and just get a life. It didn't feel natural. When Nik was doing it, it was totally natural and that's how Nik was. When she had a bad day she'd flip out but then she'd laugh after it. They don't know what they're doing."

Imogen isn't the only person to make the claims as viewers on social media also said that Kerry Riches, who was evicted this week, was trying to following in the footsteps of TOWIE legend and ex-Celebrity Big Brother contestant Gemma. However, Hallie has said that imitating other people "would be very weird".

Addressing the copycat claims, Hallie told Daily Star and other press: "I think everyone is their own person honestly. I think everyone has their moments but I don't think when anyone is talking they are trying refer back to old housemates, that would be just very weird.

"I don't understand how someone would copy other housemates because everyone in there is just themselves. I don't think anyone would really do that, especially when you're in the moment and you're having a laugh, having a joke or you're angry or venting, things like that don't come into mind.

"You're just getting things off your chest so I don't understand how people would copy other housemates. A few times Kerry has been referred to as Gemma Collins but I just think it's because she's an Essex girl. I don't think she is trying to be Gemma Collins. No one can be Gemma Collins, she's iconic."

There's just over two weeks left until one lucky housemate will walk away with the £100,000 prize fund and Hallie has revealed who she'd like to win. She said: "Yinrun [Huang] has got this in the bag. She's such a sweetheart and so pure and she hasn't got a bad bone in her bone and it breaks my heart that she hasn't been able to go and see her parents face to face since she's lived in the UK so I hope she does win this she goes get a flight to China and to get her parents to fly back with her because that would be so amazing."

Big Brother airs Sunday to Thursday on ITV2 and ITVX at 9pm followed by Big Brother Late & Live at 10pm
