In a bid to raise money for Comic Relief, the trio spent days in rough terrain, harsh weather and high winds to get to the summit of Cairn Gorm Mountain. However, BBC viewers were unimpressed with the charity challenge as many branded the documentary over the top.

=Starting off their journey in Braemar, Emma, Rylan and Oti had a tough first day and night as they suffered injuries from their first stretch of the climb,

Emma hurt her back and shoulders from carrying her heavy backpack and Rylan suffered from lack of sleep as he was too tall for his sleeping bag, causing him discomfort.

As the celebrities were only starting on their 4000 ft climb, morale was low on the second morning.

After the second day was over, expedition leader Graeme Douglas decided to give the celebrities a little pick me up by showing them messages from their loved ones.

Rylan received a video clip from his mum, Oti’s Strictly sister Motsi gave her words of encouragement and Emma’s boyband husband Matt Willis gave her a boost.

The trio were overcome with emotion at seeing their families tell them how proud they all were of them for doing the challenge.

Although, it seemed BBC viewers were less than moved by the segment as many were baffled at them getting messages from home on their second night.

Other viewers criticised the climb for being over the top, with some slamming it for not being as dramatic as past challenges.

Taking to Twitter, MrsAri slammed: “Crying over messages from home? Battery won’t have even worn down on their phone yet.”

Cumbriaoldrural replied: “Ridiculous.”

Rattycastle commented: “#RedNoseDay sorry but they walked 4 miles on a path!! Hardly Everest!”

FlopsyPickle added: “They’ve been gone a day but are blubbering about messages from loved ones. Remember when they used to do proper challenges? #RedNoseDay”

Sc1874 tweeted: “This #bigrednosedaychallenge is great to see the lovely scenery and Scottish countryside but the hyperbole is a bit OTT. ‘Summit attempt’ it’s Cairngorm for heaven’s sake, not Everest. #RedNoseDay #BBCone”

DuncanUK45 said: “Glad it’s not just me that’s thinking this isn’t exactly the greatest challenge in the world. Another 2 and a half km before reaching camp … WOW And why haven’t they been given hiking poles?”

However, despite viewers sharing the opinion that their summit didn’t seem too difficult, the former Strictly star confessed she was worried she’d let Emma and Rylan down.

On their final day, as they prepared to tackle the big ascend, Oti told the cameras she knew she’d struggle the most.

She said: “We started this journey together and we’re all going to finish it. So, I’ll try my best and nothing stops me.”

Although the high-speed winds seemed to slow the trio down, viewers saw them successfully reach the top.

All holding hands, they ran to the summit as they cheered at their victory, pleased they had made it.

Emma, Oti & Rylan’s Big Red Nose Day Challenge is available to watch on BBC iPlayer.
