Ben receives major update about Lewis in EastEnders

Ben Mitchell (Max Bowden) received an update on his case in EastEnders, as he learned that Lewis Butler (Aidan O’Callaghan) was arrested and questioned by the police – but was later let out on bail.

The mechanic, as viewers know, was raped by Lewis in harrowing scenes earlier this year, and he subsequently spiralled out of control due to the trauma of the ordeal.

His marriage to Callum Highway (Tony Clay) fell apart, with Callum believing that he’d cheated on him with bar manager Lewis.

After opening up to his mum Kathy Beale (Gillian Taylforth), Ben decided that he would report what happened to the police, but later reconsidered.

A warehouse showdown with Lewis, however, saw him choose to let the rapist live, before he ultimately headed to the police station to report what he went through.

Callum, meanwhile, found out about Ben’s ordeal and offered support, revealing that he would love them to reconcile. Ben, while still very much in love with Callum, claimed that they’d reached the end of the line.

Lola Pearce (Danielle Harold), however, doesn’t think so, and she soon made it her mission to reunite the former lovers, devising a plot that involved them both assisting Vi (Gwen Taylor) in moving out of her home.

Ben and Callum, realising that they’d been set up, sat on the bed outside the funeral parlour and had a heart-to-heart, as they admitted that they still very much love one another.

The pair’s moment, however, but was interrupted by the arrival of the officer handling Ben’s case, who informed him that Lewis had been arrested, but was subsequently let out on bail.

What’s more, Lewis has claimed that the sex was ‘consensual’, which left Ben upset, as he came to believe the rapist would get away with his crime.

EastEnders continues Tuesday October 4 at 7:30pm on BBC One.
