Humphrey Goodman (played by Kris Marshall) originally left Death in Paradise after making the decision to follow Martha Lloyd (Sally Bretton) to London. The couple continued their holiday romance in the city but decided they wanted a more relaxed lifestyle, which is why they moved to Devon. The spin-off Beyond Paradise sees how the couple settles into a quieter life, with Humphrey joining the local police force and Martha opening up her own restaurant. However, since their move, it hasn’t all been plain sailing for the couple.

The latest episode saw Martha telling the detective she no longer wanted children.

It was a heartbreaking moment for the pair after already losing a baby following their difficult IVF journey.

Things were made even worse when Martha’s old flame Archie (Jamie Bamber) tried kissing her.

With their relationship hanging in the balance, could Humphrey end up leaving Devon to head back to Saint Marie?

Ever since the series began, fans have been pleading with bosses for a Death in Paradise crossover.

They have also been given a glimpse of one fan favourite when Selwyn Patterson returned in the form of a duck.

However, speaking in a new interview, Kris teased whether he could return to Death in Paradise.

“I would say there’s always a possibility of something like that,” the actor hinted.

“I’d love to bring them all back, really, for different reasons. I had such a wonderful time.”

He added to Digital Spy: “I think it’d be awesome to have all four detectives in one show or one episode together, as a meta thing where their worlds collide.”

The show’s producers have also teased fans with the possibility of Humphrey heading back to sunny Saint Marie.

In a preview clip from the series, Humphrey was spotted sitting in front of his shack.

Tim Key told Express.co.uk and other press: “There is nothing I can say, it did look like Humphrey was somewhere in the promo, you’ll just have to watch.”

When discussing Selwyn’s surprise appearance in the BBC series, Tim added: “The duck is part of that conversation about the DNA of Death in Paradise and what aspects of the original show do we feel we had a reference to our own version.

“The houseboat in episode two, for example, there was something a bit different about it.”

When he was presented with the original Beyond Paradise script, Kris didn’t think the series would work.

He shared: “When Tony [Jordan] first sent me the first script, I thought, well that’s all very well, but if you’re going to make the same show and put it in the UK, that’s not necessarily going to work, or it might work but it might be a bit lazy.

“So, it has to be really different, and then when I read the first script, I was like, wow, this is different.

“It’s completely different, and it shares the same DNA as Death in Paradise, but it’s entirely unique.”

Beyond Paradise returns on Friday at 8pm on BBC One.
