Brave Amy reports rapist Aaron to the police in Coronation Street

The aftermath of Amy Barlow (Elle Mulvaney)’s rape ordeal in Coronation Street continues to be felt in upcoming episodes as she faces the decision about whether or not to report the ordeal to the police.

Amy was raped by Aaron Sandford (James Craven) after a night of excessive drinking led to them both kissing – but when Amy passed out and was therefore unable to consent to what happened next, Aaron continued to have sex with her. Amy was unaware of what had happened until she saw her underwear on the floor the next morning and gradually realised something very bad had taken place.

As she prepares for Daisy (Charlotte Jordan)’s wedding and stands awkwardly in her bridesmaid dress, Adam (Sam Robertson) gives her a friendly squeeze to show his support – but Simon (Alex Bain) notices the way Amy flinches from Adam’s touch. When he questions Amy about it she fobs him off but this is witnessed by Tracy (Kate Ford).

Meanwhile Aaron is still persisting in his belief that they had both wanted sex and he texts Amy suggesting they put things behind them. When Summer (Harriet Bibby) sees this, Aaron gives his version of events which sends an enraged Summer to confront Amy about this apparent betrayal of their friendship.

Amy bursts into tears, insisting that Summer has got things wrong. She then spills everything out to Tracy who is naturally horrified to hear about what’s happened to her daughter.

With Tracy for support, Amy decides to go to the police, bravely telling them she wants to report a rape.

Will Aaron face justice for what he’s done?
