Hot on the heels of the release of Britney Spears’ explosive memoir The Woman In Me just last month, her younger sister Jamie Lynn is heading into the I’m A Celeb jungle.
The 32-year-old is all set to take on creepy crawlies, Bushtucker Trials and Dingo Dollar Challenges, and is reportedly using this stint as an opportunity to retaliate and spill some of her own secrets – much to Britney’s dismay.
In fact, Britney views the timing as “suspicious” and is concerned about what her sister might say, a source has exclusively told new.
“She sees this as a cynical plot to take revenge by airing their dirty laundry in public,” a well-placed source in LA claimed. “She is terrified of what Jamie Lynn might say and keeps saying this will be the end of their relationship if she attacks her on the show.”
In Britney’s book, which sold one million copies in the first week, she discussed the turbulent relationship she has with Jamie Lynn.
The singer detailed how her bond with her sister, who is almost 10 years her junior, ruptured from an early age.
At one point, referencing Jamie Lynn’s behaviour, Britney wrote, “My little sister – well, when I tell you she was a total b***h, I’m not exaggerating. It was clear that girl ruled the roost. Meanwhile, it was like I was a ghost child.”
Later, when Jamie Lynn branched into acting and played the titular character in children’s TV show Zoey 101, Britney said she would visit the Nickelodeon TV studios.
However, she recalled a now infamous incident on set. The star claimed she thought she was coming to Jamie Lynn’s defence against a co-star who, according to her sister, was spreading malicious rumours about her, only to find out later that Jamie Lynn supposedly lied about the situation.
In 2018, Britney also learned that Jamie Lynn, who has two daughters, had been made a trustee for the portion of her estate. So, when their father Jamie used the conservatorship to place her in a rehab facility for months, Britney said she reached out to her sister for help.
But, in her book, the singer claimed that Jamie Lynn texted her to say “stop fighting it”.
“As I was fighting the conservatorship and receiving a lot of press attention, she was writing a book capitalising on it,” Britney wrote, referencing Jamie Lynn’s 2022 book, Things I Should Have Said.
“She rushed out salacious stories about me, many of them hurtful and outrageous. I was really let down. Shouldn’t sisters be able to confess their fear or vulnerability to each other without that later being used as evidence of instability?”
But this isn’t the first time the siblings’ issues have been aired publicly as Jamie Lynn alluded in her own book that their relationship was strained.
She even painted her sister’s behaviour growing up as “erratic,” “moody,” and “paranoid.”
And our source believes that “I’m A Celebrity would be an easy opportunity [for her] to hit back” against any statements Britney made in her book about the family.
In a promotional video for the ITV reality show, Jamie Lynn, who is joining a star-studded list of celebs, including ex-Made In Chelsea star Sam Thompson, This Morning’s Josie Gibson and First Dates’ Fred Sirieix, admitted she is “looking forward to sharing stories”.
Jamie Lynn also hopes the public sees the “real me” during her time in the jungle and said, “There is literally every misconception you can have on a person about me, so I don’t take any of it seriously… This is an opportunity to be myself and do something really cool.”
However, with die-hard Britney fans expected to come to the Toxic singer’s defence – who Britney previously credited with “saving her life” and thanked for their tireless work on her behalf to end her conservatorship in 2021 – it appears that Jamie Lynn may have bitten off more than she can chew.
“If Jamie Lynn thinks this is the right way to set the record straight and have her say on what happened, she had better be prepared for the backlash because Britney is not going to take this lying down,” our source continued.
Yet, beneath the surface and uncovering their long-standing feud, Britney and sister had a much warmer and loving relationship when they were younger, according to our source.
And the singer even stated herself in The Woman In Me that despite their complicated history, she still wishes “the absolute best” for Jamie Lynn and her family.
“It’s a shame it has come to this because the sisters used to be quite close despite the almost 10-year age gap,” the source said.
“Jamie Lynn has always looked up to her big sister and Britney loves her a great deal, even now.”
It appears that only time will tell what secrets could be uncovered in the jungle.
