LAST night Netflix shared the first look at the cast of The Addams Family spin-off series, Wednesday, and fans are marvelling at Catherine Zeta-Jones' gothic transformation.
In collaboration with Netflix, Tim Burton is bringing a new iteration of the fan-favourite Addams family to the small screen, with actress Catherine taking on the role of Morticia.
Catherine, 52, is joined on screen by You star Jenna Ortega, 19, who plays her daughter, the titular Wednesday Addams.
The coming-of-age comedy horror series follows Wednesday after her parents Morticia and Gomez (Luis Guzmán) enrol her at Nevermore Academy.
While there, she navigates new friendships and tries to master her emerging psychic ability. However, that’s not all. She’s also tasked with thwarting a monstrous killing spree that is terrorising the local town and solving a decades old supernatural mystery.
On Tuesday evening, Netflix shared its first look at the new rendition of Wednesday and her family, which also includes her brother Pugsly, played by Isaac Ordonez.

“Say hello to Netflix’s Addams Family … Catherine Zeta-Jones, Jenna Ortega, Luis Guzmán, and Isaac Ordonez star in Wednesday, the new series from Tim Burton,” Netflix announced.
Alongside the caption was a black and white shot of the impressive macabre family members, but one of them stood out about the rest.
Fans just couldn’t get over seeing Catherine’s version of Morticia come to life.
“Omg Catherine Zeta-Jones like Morticia I think she [was] born for that character,” one said.

“Jenna Ortega and Catherine Zeta-Jones are beautiful!!” a second fan added.
“Perfect casting,” a third added.
Addams Family fans can catch another glimpse of Morticia in the brand new trailer for Wednesday.
Catherine dons the same black gown and wears Morticia’s trademark long black hair pushed back behind her shoulders. She finished off the look with dark lipstick.
Catherine looks magnificent as Morticia, but some viewers expected the role to go to Christina Ricci who played Wednesday in the 1991 film The Addams Family and its 1993 sequel Addams Family Values.

Although she won’t be playing Morticia, or an older version of her character, Christina, 42, will return to the Addams Family universe in a brand new — but undisclosed — role.
Confirming the news earlier this year, Netflix said: “Yes, it’s true — the magnificent Christina Ricci is joining the cast of the new Wednesday Addams series as an exciting new character *snap snap*.”
Wednesday is set to premiere on Netflix this autumn.
