Celebrity Gogglebox’s Nick Grimshaw explains why he won’t join Strictly Come Dancing

Celebrity Gogglebox star Nick Grimshaw has revealed the one reason he will not go on Strictly Come Dancing.

The former radio host opened up about his thoughts on appearing on the dance competition to professional dancer and Strictly winner Giovanni Pernice and chef Angela Hartnett on his podcast, Dish.

Nick admitted he would not be able to commit the time to the show in the immediate future.

"I would like to do it, but we were talking about it this morning and I was like: 'You can't do it half-arsed',” he began.

“You've gotta go and be like, right, this is my focus now for months, every single day, I'm gonna be committed, I'm ready to be taught… and I'm not ready,” he explained.

Nick recently appeared on Gogglebox’s Pride special for Pride month in June.

He appeared alongside other LGBTQ+ personalities including Rylan Clark and his mother, Linda, as well as The Chase star Paul Sinha and his husband Oliver.

In a statement about the special, Channel 4 said that the programme “will reflect on the incredible achievements and challenges of advancing LGBTQ+ rights and visibility over the last half century, while also platforming the diversity of identity and sexuality in the 2020s".

It’s been a momentous year for Nick, as earlier in the year he announced his engagement to his partner, Meshach Henry.

The radio presenter shared the happy news on Instagram with a series of snaps that showcased his engagement ring and some photo booth snaps of Mesh and Nick.

Last year, Nick also announced that he was leaving his Radio 1 show after 14 years of being “lucky” enough to “live his dream.”

"My childhood dream was to work on Radio 1 and I have been lucky enough to make that dream come true,” he explained.

"It has been everything I'd imagined and even more. I grew up wanting to connect with people and to feel accepted and the Radio 1 listeners gave me that and let me be part of their daily life, for which I will be eternally grateful.

“But over the last few months I've been doing a lot of thinking about my future and after 14 years, I've made the decision that it's time for me to move on."

Gogglebox airs on Friday at 9pm on Channel 4.
