The shocks keep coming for Charity Dingle (Emma Atkins) in Emmerdale. Only a short time ago she made the devastating discovery that her new husband Mackenzie (Lawrence Robb) was the father of Chloe Harris (Jessie Elland)’s baby, Reuben. Despite Mackenzie pleading for her forgiveness she knew that his betrayal was something she couldn’t live with and told him that they were over.
Recently Mack spent some time together with Moses (Arthur Cockroft) at the playground, with Charity enjoying a glimpse of being together as a family. Despite this she told him that she wanted a divorce, apparently putting an end to all hopes of a reconciliation.
If Charity hoped that would draw a line under things and help her to move on, it’s not going to be that simple with Chloe, Mackenzie and Reuben being constantly around the village.
In upcoming episodes Sarah (Katie Hill) knows that Mackenzie and Chloe have been spending more time together and she wonders whether to tell Charity, knowing how hurt Charity was when she found out that Sarah had known about Mackenzie being the father of Chloe’s baby for months.
The next day it’s Sarah’s birthday and Moses, Noah (Jack Downham) and Ryan (James Moore) burst in to sing Happy Birthday to her. There’s a surprise party arranged, and Charity knows for her granddaughter’s sake she should invite her friend Chloe to the party.
This is a very kind and brave gesture on Charity’s part, but it backfires as far as she’s concerned when Mackenzie also turns up for the party, and he has Reuben with him. Poor Charity is forced to endure the sight of him playing doting dad at her own granddaughter’s party.
Mackenzie assures her that his only relationship is with Reuben and there’s nothing between him and Chloe.
He may well believe that in the moment because Mack is a master of not being able to see further than the end of his nose, but it’s not long before he and Chloe are sharing a kiss. They’re distracted by Mack seeing Reuben’s first smile, so they don’t notice that Charity has seen them kiss.
Naturally, she’s fuming as the pain of what she just witnessed sinks in and she realises that Mackenzie has lied to her yet again. She tells Chas (Lucy Pargeter) what she saw and vows that she’ll get vengeance.
