Charlotte Dawson has opened up on the terrifying moment her baby Jude ‘went grey’ as she came close to losing her ‘little miracle’.
The 31 year old reality TV star endured an “absolute nightmare” after her son was taken into hospital with RSV bronchitis at just three months old. Thankfully the baby boy recovered – but Charlotte has now revealed how doctors told her if she had delayed bringing Jude to hospital for another 24 hours, he would have died.
Mum of two Charlotte, daughter of late comedy legend Les Dawson, recalled the terrifying moment in October when Jude woke her up in the middle of the night with the “ loudest scream” that was unlike his normal cry. He also wasn’t feeding – which was out of character for him.
"His breathing slowed right down, and he couldn’t catch his breath," Charlotte told Closer. "Suddenly the colour changed in him, he went really grey."
The Celebs Go Dating star and actress, who is engaged to former rugby league professional Matt Sarsfield, said she had repeatedly taken Jude to the doctors because he had been unwell but was advised it was probably just a cold. But when his skin changed colour, she decided to rush him to hospital.
Recalling what medics said to her at hospital, she went on: “They saw him and straight away they said, ‘Thank God you’ve brought him in now, because he would’ve died if it was 24 hours later.’ I was in utter shock.”
Charlotte added that Jude was so low on oxygen that he remained on it for six days. She also opened up on the heartbreaking moment that his older brother Noah, aged just two, saw the baby being treated and said he didn’t like ‘seeing Jude with all the wires’.
After nearly a week in hospital, Jude was well enough to go home. Charlotte told how the incident had put everything into perspective for her. She added: “If anything happened to Jude, I don’t know what I would’ve done – having him has made my year and he’s our little miracle.”
Charlotte, who has been performing back-to-back in pantomime during the past month, also told of the sweet family tradition of going to see the statue of her late dade Les in Blackpool on the morning of 25 December to wish him a merry Christmas. Tragically, Les died when Charlotte was just eight months old.
In October, Charlotte first opened up on how Jude had been rushed to hospital with RSV bronchitis. When they returned home, she took to Instagram to explain she’d had many messages to thank her for raising awareness of the illness and to give fans an update on Jude’s condition.
She wrote: “After so many of you have messaged me saying thank you for raising awareness about the horrible RSV virus which I didn’t know was so common.. & so many messaged to say you took your babies to hospital and they have it and Thankgod being treated.
“We really should know more knowledge on it as new mums, new parents & parents in general who haven’t gone through it before. It really is so scary. Hope I can help as many as I can, as it’s the season for it apparently..
“As you can see, we are soooo happy to be home & our beautiful baby Jude on the mend, as this time last week was an actual nightmare.”
