Chicago Fire: Season 11 Episode 20 promo trailer
After reprising his iconic role in season 11, episode 18, titled Danger is All Around, Chicago Fire star, Jesse Spencer (who plays Matt Casey) is coming back once again to round out the season.
However, season 11 finale storylines have been kept under wraps at this point, but Spencer’s appearance in episode 18 certainly left fans with questions.
The fan-favourite character made it clear things aren’t exactly gelling in Oregon.
In fact, when his ex, Brett (Kara Killmer), told him she was dating someone else, he lied and said he was too to ensure he was moving on.
But in reality, Casey was single, and it seems like he’s dwelling on the idea of returning to Chicago to potentially start things back up with Brett.
Prior to NBC confirming the return of fans’ beloved Matt, Spencer teased what fans could expect to see from him if he did return to the series.
Speaking to NBC Insider, Spencer explained: “The idea when I left the show was that if it was appropriate and it would work with the storyline they wanted to do, I would be open—and they would be open—to bringing Casey back.”
He continued: “The storyline [in Episode 18] does allude to Casey sort of eyeing whether he could actually move back to 51.
“Can he potentially, in the future, rekindle his relationship with Brett and start that fire again? We’re ‘gonna have to see,” he teased.

Spender concluded, saying: “Casey’s looking at it; it’s a potential thing, but we just don’t know right now. We’ll leave that to the future. We’ll throw it to the gods and see what they say.”
Despite the excitement surrounding Spencer’s return, the star is only set to appear in the finale episode of Season 11, his future on the show remains unclear.
But one thing fans can be sure of is Spencer was pleased to be back working with his Chicago Fire family once again.
“It was really great,” Spencer told NBC Insider when he was asked about his return for episode 18.
The star continued: “It had been a while; it’d been, like, over a year or something since I’d been back.
But it’s like riding a bike, you know? There are familiar faces. I know pretty much all the crew and pretty much all the cast. I had a ball,” he added.
The drama has been renewed at NBC for season 12, however, creator and showrunner Derek Haas will not be returning after the current season comes to an end and a replacement is yet to be named.
Chicago Fire season 11 continues Wednesdays on NBC in the US or is available to stream on Amazon Prime in the UK.
