Chris Kamara shares health update after receiving ‘amazing’ treatment

This Morning: Chris Kamara shares an update on his apraxia

Chris Kamara has shared an update on his health following his battle with apraxia. This year, the 65-year-old had treatment at a NeuroCytonix clinic in Mexico for over a month.

On Tuesday’s instalment of This Morning, the sports pundit appeared alongside Aled Jones and Russell Watson. The trio were speaking about repairing their Masked Singer roles for this year’s Britain Get Singing.

Touching on their upcoming performance, presenter Craig Doyle said: “The song you’re singing is particularly poignant. It’s a WestLife song and you’ve spoken quite publicly about your speech. The treatment’s going really well, you sound great.”

Replying, Chris shared an update on how he’s doing since receiving care abroad. He said: “Oh amazing, I went to Mexico for treatment and I got the fluency back in my voice.”

The 65-year-old told the presenters that despite the fluency improving, the speed isn’t quite yet back to how it was. Praising Chris’ health progress, Russell said: “He undersells himself because he’s doing brilliantly. Absolutely fantastic.”

Echoing Russell’s thoughts, Aled added: “For us, we’ve sung that song loads of times Rus and I.

“To sing it was Kam, it just brings a different meaning to the song as well. Honestly, it’s so moving.”

In a preview clip, viewers got to see a sneak peek at the trio’s performance as they were back in their Ghost, Traffic Cone and Cockroach costumes.

They will be singing WestLife’s You Raise Me Up in front of judges Jonathan Ross, Adam Lambert, Alesha Dixon and will.i.am.

Touching on their performance, Chris said: “Nobody knows I can sing! Especially when I’m next to these two [Aled and Russell].

“These two are amazing, I was so lucky to sing with them but I’ve ruined their careers now! That’s it!”

Get Britain Talking, which airs on ITV on Christmas Eve, will see a range of stars taking to the stage to support the broadcaster’s mental health campaign.

Along with Chris, Aled and Russell, viewers will also see the cast of Good Morning Britain, Love Island, Eastenders and Coronation Street take to the stage.

Last year, fans watched as the panel of Loose Women stole the show with their rendition of Bridge Over Troubled Water.

Will Chris, Aled and Russell be able to follow in their footsteps and become the champions this year?

Britain Get Singing will air on ITV on Sunday, 24 December from 9pm.

This Morning continues weekdays on ITV from 10am.
