Anita Carey has died at the age of 75.
The actress, who is perhaps best known for playing Vivien March in Doctors, died last month following a battle with breast cancer. She had first been diagnosed in 2010.
Anita rose to fame in the 1970s, appearing in many British TV series’ including The Spoils Of War and The History Of Mr Polly.
The Beryl’s Lot star would land a role on Coronation Street in 1978, playing Brenda Summers, a victim of domestic abuse who was befriended by Emily Bishop, appearing in four episodes.
She would play a more significant part in the ITV soap in 1996, playing the role of Joyce Smedley, mum to established cobbles resident Judy Mallett.
Joyce was killed off in 1997 in shocking scenes when she was hit by a car while out walking her dog.
Anita, meanwhile, would go on to land what became one of her biggest roles the following decade when she joined the cast of Doctors in 2007, just two years after having guested on the daytime soap for a single episode.
This time, she portrayed Mill receptionist Vivien March, who became one of the show’s most recognisable characters.
Vivien was at the centre of a huge rape storyline which received critical acclaim, with Anita picking up the award for Best Female Dramatic Performance at the British Soap Awards in 2009.
Anita left Doctors that very year.
The star also appeared in Heartbeat, playing two different roles, as well as Casualty, Where The Heart Is and Midsomer Murders.
Fans were quick to pay tribute to Anita following news of her death, with one writing: ‘Devastated to hear about the Passing of Anita Carey.. Played Vivien in@BBCDoctors amongst other Roles… Absolute loved her in Doctors. Rest in peace Anita.
‘Thoughts go out to Anita’s Friends and Family at this difficult time x
